I got this 8 foot bass tracker boat with a good size hole on the bottom right cornor. The hole is about golf ball size. The boat is plastic and sits on the 2 big plates of styrofoam with a little water way in between them. The water way is where the drain plugs are. The hole doesn't get water inside the boat like where the seats are, it gets water inside with the styrofoam making it extremly difficult to lift up to put back onto the truck.
What should I use to patch this hole?
Thanks

Use a fiberglass repair kit. You should be able to find them at Walmart or Academy.

You will need to dry it out completely, then use fiberglass cloth and resin. If you can get a little of the foam out around the hole and do the repair so the fiberglass and resin is on both sides of the plastic, it will have a better chance of holding. I would also rough up the plastic around the hole with 40 grit sandpaper or similar. Once you clean it out and rough it up, clean it thoroughly. Then clean it thoroughly again.

Where can I get the fiberglass cloth and resin. Do they sell those together. And I have a wire brush on a drill motor. Will that get the job done as far as cleanin it up thoroughly?
Thanks

We would test a panel first to be sure it adheres. This is a molded polypropylene boat in most cases. If it is, then you may want to do something else. Try asking a poly parts builder what they would do? They probably have a good idea, though we don't think glass will adhere well enough.

BCB is correct - that is why you need to rough it up with very coarse sand paper or similar and try to get the cloth and resin on both sides. That is your best chance for it to adhere.
You can get cloth, resin, and hardener at any auto parts store. I also think Wally World carries it now.

Call Bristow at North Texas Fiberglass. He can tell you what to use.
Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

The marine grade fiberglass kit from wal-mart worked well to fix my 8' plastic bass buster boat. Follow the instructions and it will be fine.........and inexpensive.
