yeh, I also think a good snake is a dead snake. My.22 kills just as many rodents as a snake!

blue devil, I have my own warm sentiments towards reptiles, and it is funny when big ol' tough boys squeal like little girls and prance around their boats when they see a yellowbelly. However, what you wrote about "being sorry you saw me" sounded an awful lot like a threat, perhaps of a violent nature. Which unalienable right does that fall under?

The only good argument thread is a dead argument thread.

Before we come to blows over this let's try to put a litte perspective on this. As to the purpose and usefulness of snakes goes, don't we have plenty of non venemous snakes to get done what is needed to get done by snakes? Which makes more sense, having a potentially lethal animal in your back yard thus making sure that you don't contract Bubonic Plague, which nobody has come down with in the last 400 years, or, kill the poisonous snakes and allow other predators like non poisonous snakes, coyotes, hawks and owls handle the mice and vermin?

Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for one night. Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

I killed a snake that looked exactly like the one boo-hoo devil posted. It had a big hump in it. I cut it open and found that it was a golf ball.

any water rodent that comes around defenseless children should be killed. The safety of humans comes FIRST! You got a problem with that, then go live in the forest!

Reminds me of the documentary of the guy who moved into the bears territory to defend them and study the "charming and defenseless" creatures.... well-- in the end he and his girlfriend were eaten alive by those ANIMALS.

Even better: Those two were killed not by some strapping young tough bear with a chip on its shoulder and something to prove to the world, but an old bear that had lost most of its teeth and was desperately hungry because everything else around had outsmarted or outrun it. Darwinism in action!

Another vote for killing every snake I see.

I can't believe anyone would risk his life over a damn snake!

First of all, the guy who claims to whip someones a$$ over killing a snake is not too bright, you must understand for the most part this is a concept that's been passed down for generations and if you want to convince someone that you believe what they are doing is wrong that's probably the most worthless and pointless approach you could take. If i told that what your father taught you was wrong, and he is wrong you wouldn't be too happy, so next time your may take a more intelligent approach, such as this:

There is no doubt in my mind that the theory of "a good snake is a dead snake" is not a good idea but i do understand that it may engraned for many.
PLEASE DON'T TAKE OFFENSE, THIS IS MY OPINION, but the people that disagree with that theory are not necessarily tree-hugging PETA members.

Most are what you call CONSERVATIONISTS, not to be confused with Preservationists.
If people neglect to educate themselves about conservation of natural resources, then those people shouldn't call themselves true outdoorsman, but consumers, who knowingly or unknowingly exploit and waste resources without caring about the future or bothering to understand how they can be managed.
I love to hunt and fish like most of you, but think about it, by the way some are talking, it's like you could care less about something that in most cases is vital to maintain a healthy ecosystem, the very ecosystem in which we hunt and fish.
Eradicating native species tends to cause a detrimental "domino-affect"
For those who know the concept of a keystone species, Texas snakes as far as I know are not keystone species, but given the enormous role they play in local ecosystems, many probably should be or will be.
I am by NO MEANS a tree-hugger, I am fortunate enough to be nearing completion of a b.s. in Wildlife Management, which I plan to follow with a masters.

The only thing that you can consider useless and in need of eradication would be harmful invasive exotics.

So if we can replace "the only good snake is a dead snake" with
"The only good invasive exotic is a dead invasive exotic" then our natural resources will without a doubt benefit significantly

The objective of conservation is to slow the inevitable destruction and disappearance of what natural resources we have at our disposal,
but like i said, with human expansion it's going to happen like it or not,
So for those of you who just don't care and continue to exploit and destroy without regulation are just speeding up the destruction of what we have.
So what the hell is the difference between you and the plants that dump chemicals into our rivers and lakes, or that guy who dumps his trash on your deer lease, whom you consider to have no respect

PETA believes hunters and fisherman are blood-thirsty people, so don't make them correct about that, that organization is strong enough and beliefs like this one makes them stronger, and I sure as hell don't want to be around to see them gain control

violin Blue Devil violin Have some cheese with that whine. If they come close to me they are going to be dead or I am. Nothing ruins a fine fishing trip as a moccasin getting his fangs in your fat stringer of fish.
