Remember as many have stated on the forum, cut the chicken liver. If you pull it apart it weakens the muscles and it won't stay on the hook very well. You can punch holes in the dogfood can, run a line through it, and retrive the can when you finish fishing.

Anyway, catfish is an easy fish. They love everything stink. Liver, poultry intestine ... They live in every corner. Love to go for food at early time or late at night.

Ever try those little plastic tear-dropped thingies they sell for tube bait? Just poke a little chicken liver in there. Works pretty good, and it's a tad easier than the panty hose and don't get the wife on the warpath either.
Started out with nothing and still have most of it left.
For the rich there is therapy; for the rest of us there is fishing.

I've caught some very nice Hybrid's, up to 7lbs on Chicken Liver out at lake Georgetown, and just yesterday I must have been casting into a herd of Carp, because I caught several in short order, out at Overlook.
Sadly, my best technique for getting the best bites seems to be wandering away from my pole....

I honestly thought I was fast enough to catch my poles, if they were being dragged into the water. In fact, I've had to jump in a few times out at lake Georgetown, but never lost one. However, just two weeks ago, had my rod leaning against a fairly tall rock, using a very flexible Ugly Stik rod, fishing Chicken Liver....I was about 10 feet away, talking, saw the rod bend, it let up just a bit, and then went flying over the rock and into the lake so fast, I never had a chance. It was just flat gone. All I saw was a trail of bubbles, like you see with a torpedo! I never fish without a rod holder anymore, so at least now I can safely wander away.. It never fails! Poles bend, corks disappear everytime you walk away.

He kept on fishing, but we had to build a nice fire! I got a few rods in Granger from being yanked from the boat. I either tie them or use a good rod holder.

What Fishinspector was talking about, I think, is cheesecloth...looks kinda like gauze, but you get a lot in a package. You can find it at Hobby Lobby. Cut 4''x4'' squares, put your liver in it, tie it up, put it on a circle hook, then you can sweeten it up with dip bait, anise oil, cod liver oil, whatever.

Once I get the liver on my trebble hook, I use about 12 inches of plain old sewing thread wrapped around the entire hook/liver several times. I don't even bother to tie it; just wrap it and let the loose end of the thread dangle. I also keep a small pair of scissors in my bag to cut off the thread that remains after the liver is gone. +1 This is the only method I have found to keep it on the hook lately, so I can cast like a crazy man. I probably use a foot and a half or so of thread though.
mmmm fish!
