I am having the best spring ever with regards to numbers of crappie. However, the majority of fish are 8-10 inches long. This season, I vowed to only fish with jigs/grubs. While I have gained confidence, learned alot, and caught more fish, the problem still exists. Anybody else having the same problems?
Also, I have been catching some solid females on brush. However, after a few good 14" fish, the dinks seem to take over. What's up with that?

1 in 6 would be a dream at JP... Dinks?....now that seems nothing unusual if you are fishing JP... I don't mean to trash JP (I do love JP), but it's true! 1 in 20 at JP is the norm so don't feel bad.
I don't know which lake you are refering to, but if you are catching dinks that are abnormal to that certain lake, then you need to move. Crappies tend to travel in school... Unfortunatel, JP doesn't offer any classes higher than kindergarden, therefore, some bigger fish has to mix in with the kids...heheheh

At Palestine last weekend we only had 1 throwback out of the 26 or so that we caught. Bigger than usual there.

1 keeper for every 20 fish is definatly Joe Pool. Those dinks can be some fast action on that lake though. Gotta love Joe Pool!

last night at lewisville i had 35 fish and only two big enough for the box. I'm a pilgrim when it comes to crappie so figured I was doing something wrong.
PB Blue Cat = 36 lbs - Texoma PB Black Bass = 9.9 lbs - Ray Hubbard PB Striper = 19 Lbs - Beaver Lake AR I'm thankful for all the things i have, and all the things i don't. I have dreams that will come true and i have some that won't.

Same here. Whats's going on? I'm like chicken man, keepin one in every 6-9. I thought this was just happening at Bridgeport, but I guess it's not not.

You're posibly fishing in the wrong area. I've been catching big females consistantly about 10' deep in Timber and on Bamboo brush piles at Lewisville. Yesterday I fished in the Marina and caught 20 fish in two hours and only 2 were keepers. The water is 18' deep and the fish were suspended at 8'. I think the big girls are gone toward the spawing area's.
While all lakes are different I would fish cover or structure 8'-10' deep near spawning area's.
In my opinion the females only come in to the bank for a few hours and then leave. (Usually in late afternoon or at night.)
