Nice fish but why on earth do people feel the need to keep something like that?

Throw it back to fight another day.

Umm, to eat! And before someone spouts off with the old wives tail that the big ones taste worse than the small ones, I , and most every other real flathead fisherman know better. I rather catch, clean and cook the meat from one 50 pound flathead than 5- 10 pound flatheads.

What a fish. It's interesting with flatties though, looking at this fish. A small percentage of the weight of that fish is actually meat. A massive head and belly(probably has a 5 pound bass in there...lol) seems to be the majority of the fish.

They end up being around 33-40% clean meat.

I used to do a little Taxidermy a few years back, and a guy brought me a huge head from 65# flathead he caught for me to mount, and you would be surprised at how much meat is in a catfish head that size.

Just one more cast!

i agree, i would have taken pics and weighed that one and turned him back. Plenty of other eaters out there to catch. I wonder if we will ever see a slot limit on catfish like we have on salt water species?
