Im headed back to RC this Wed. and the wife says NO to my fishing partner, which also is my 15 year old son. She says he needs to stay in school and that I should run an pole on here and see what the consensus is. So here goes and thanks to anyone that wants to reply to this.

It's a matter of teaching him tht he can ignore obligations and go do the "fun" stuff if he wants to. Next, he'll be telling you to "stuff it" etc. when you give him instructions around the house. Grades are secondary to the responsibility to go to school. That's his job right now.

Can you get him out a half day?

My heart says fish.
My brain says school.

Both have tremendous upsides. Hard to pick one over the other. Try to do both, as best you can.

I couldn't agree more txt! By the way I have 6 kids so I consider myself an authority on the subject. If he deserves to go and it is a special thing it will be a lifelong memory. On a rare occasion when the sun comes out after the winter is fading out I say it's necessary not just ok. But I do agree that he needs to be holding up his end of the bargin.

Take him fishing, most 15 year olds dont want anything to do with their parents, consider it a blessing he wants to spend time with Dad.

You as a parent must not think that commitment and obligation mean much. I think if you take hime out of school to go do anything that is not an emergency is just plain imature as a parent.

He's not your best buddy -- he is your son which should give you a whole new set of rules other than that of a good ole boy.

I say he stays in school -- and God bless your wife for saying so also.
