Most of this spring has been off and on at Ray Roberts during the spawn. Seems like just as the crappie start up shallow another cold front would push them back out deeper. With the last few days of warm weather it looks like they could be finely committed to the spawn and should be good tell the spawn is over. With the rain today the water should become more stained which will help the crappie move up into shallower water. 4-14-09: 2 lb 9oz sow caught on a char/blue Thumpit Jig in 3' of water. 4-15-09: Doug with 21 very nice crappie. 3 going 2 lbs and 3 more just under 2. Most of these slabs came off a wht/char Rocky Top jig in 5 to 6 ft of water. 4-16-09: Spawn fishing the way it should be. 50 fish limit of crappie out of around 90 caught. 3 going over 2 lbs. Most of these crappie came off a purple/pearl fleck tube jig from Mid South Tackle and a char/blue ThumpIt jig. Caught in 2 to 4 ft of water. Thanks, Cliff

I totally agree with Cliff. Most of our north Texas lakes are in their prime time for the spawns. The crappie have committed to the spawn and will stay and "do their thing" until finished. I also liked the heavy rain we received today....especially since I'm going again tomorrow to do some more stumpin.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach
