I just read that lake waco is having a carp fishing tournament tommorow. I live in waco and go to that lake all the time. I have never heard of Carp on Lake Waco. Has anybody ever caught one from here? And what were you using?

If I am not mistake it is not a catch and release tournament so doubtful if any of us have fished it. For baits and rigs try sweet corn fished on a carolina rig with a #6(not 6/0) circle hook. Chum out 2 handfulls every hour and fish in the chum pile
Bowfishing sucks

Well, there are a lot of carp in that lake. If you want a good place to get some, go by Airport Beach. Walk to swiming area and look north. There is an area that should be teaming with carp right now. It is a spawning flat that has a lot of cover on it. Last May there were tons of carp on that spot. Could have snagged as many as i wanted for as long as i wanted, just got one or two for bait though. Midway park also has some carp there. They are easy to get in with a little chum, (range cubes) but you will have to fight the buffalo off. The buffalo in lake waco are really aggressive and easy to catch. your best bet if you live in waco is the MCC boat ramp. Bring your chum and fish there. There are tons of carp in that part of the river and last april we were catching 10-20 per day on just dough balls.

I have caught a couple buffs over 30lbs. PB carp was at MCC boat ramp on the river downstream of Lake Waco, it was 23lbs. I have seen buffs taken on Waco that crowded 50lbs. I have caught a ton over 10lbs, and a handfull over 20lbs. I have seen buffs swiming and "flopping" that were real monsters though. I saw one on a mud flat 2 yrs ago that looked to be 100lbs, i can not say if it was one really that big but it was HUGE. It was biggest fish i have seen in that lake. In the winter thru late spring you can really catch a lot of buffs on that lake. I have had days where I hooked up with 50 fish in 4 hrs, all buffs. Chum is your friend on that lake. Lots of range cubes. Shotgun half a gallon out 20 mins before you want to fish. Start setting up and by the time you get everything ready, some fish will be there. If you have any ?'s about water depth from bank fishing spots, PM me i can give you a quick low down on all the areas that I know. That goes for the lake and the rivers. I wrote most of the stuff down in a notebook at the house because "buffalo hunting" is fun for me. It is a blast to go out and catch 10lb fish left and right on light gear. Bait of choice is "Brazos Bottoms" it is a dough bait that is heavy on Limburger (sp) cheese and garlic. Buffs seem to love the stuff.
