i've seen several people kayaking out near the first couple oil rigs as my dad and i drive out to the farther oil rigs, and i was wondering how long it would take to kayak out to the closest oil rig, and far it is? i know they only go out when the seas are calm but i think it would be fun to troll on a kayak out in the open water

Not sure on the closest but I know people hit up the rigs off Crystal Beach with are around 3 miles or so.
How long that takes in a kayak... No Idea.. On a nice summer day I would say maybe 25-35 min to get out there..

You need to check the weather, the weather and check it some more. You also need to have a back up plan just incase something goes wrong.

A couple friends of mine paddle out to a rig 4.5 mi off of PINS and it took them a hour and a half.
