Went down to Fairfield yesterday for a few hours. Four guys in one boat with eight rods. We made our way to one of our favorite coves to find it full of baitfish. First redfish came after the bait had only been in the water less than 60 seconds. It was redfish, followed by catfish, followed by redfish for the next 4 hours. Longest time span without a fish was only about 10 minutes. We easily kept our limits of reds, but were culling them for the last 2 hours. Total for the day 12 reds kept, 13 released and 13 catfish kept. Biggest cat went around 16 lbs and over 30". Not to mention at least 10 or 12 break-offs. The biggest red went around 32" or 33" and I don't think we had a chance to measure it. Most of the reds were right around 24" but no real ratty ones. We all agreed on the drive home that it was our best trip ever, as far as straight non-stop action. We easily had over 100 lbs of fish to ice down afterwards. Friendly warden payed a visit and told us he thought we were in the right place at the right time, himself. Anyways, thought I'd post for those that needed to hear that Fairfield is alive and well and doing just fine!

It was pretty hairy after dark loading that thing. Like a fool I was the only one who wore shorts so I was in jeopardy of being "nominated" to jump out to boat-wrangle but luckily we figured out the angle of the dangle with the trailer in time!!

So what kind of bait did you cook in that fire?

PS the FF open fire ban has been off for about 30 days.

Thanks for sharing mapwood, Fairfield is also one of the best times I've had fishing too. Great fishing lake!

Yes, the bait fish were all over that cove the other day. I knew it was going to get hot a little later on. Thanks for the report.

I am thinking about driving up there to check it out, maybe Sunday or Monday.
Do freshwater red drum have the same size and quantity limits as salt water red drum?

Naw these fresh water reds are wimps, they have no useful gonads, besides they are so small, tell all you friends south of the lake they need to stay home or head for the coast.

Besides the ramp is so treacherous to warrant a trip abort at the waters edge. wink

Yep, Don's right. Not worth all the trouble to go all the way down there, have a bunch of trouble launching and then catch only little reds and such.

Try another like.....maybe Texoma.
