Just tell him how you feel. I've got 2 friends who regularly go out with me,never had an issue with gas money. Many times they beat me to the pump and say something like "my turn today". Maybe you should find a way to ask if it's "his turn today".
You guys know everything..... I'm just an idiot....no problem........

A friend and I fish alot together, im usually the one driving since i've got a truck ( we fish from our kayaks). What we did was get a re-loadable debit card and each put 100 bucks on it... I fill up my tank before we leave, and wehen we get back, i use the card. Also any bait / lunch goes on the card while we are fishing, seems to work out pretty good That's a really good idea! Usually if I can get someone to go with me I'm happy. I just like the company. When I go in anyone else's boat, I offer to take my truck or pay for their lunch.

Either tell him, or just stop inviting him.
True story: I took my bro. in law and one of his friends to lake FF to catch some Reds. They had heard me talking about catching some of those monsters and were begging me to take them(they have no boat). I talked to each of them the night before that we would be there most of the day, so pack something for lunch.
We get there and my bro. in law didn't even have the $4 to get into the park. Said he forgot his wallet. What man goes anywhere without his wallet? Neither brought anything to eat. We ended up splitting the 2 sandwiches I brought and a bag of chips. I did have a cooler with several waters, cokes.
This was last summer when gas was $3.50+, so it was a good $30 round trip for gas. Needless to say, I got no offer for any gas money, supplied food(nobody got much), and had to pay the park entry for myself and b.i.l.
I haven't invited them again.

I have fished with a few guys on here. I usually will offer some cash or buy lunch. Some take it some dont, it makes no difference to me. I just feel I should offer it. I used to fish with cellis quite a bit before my daughter was born. We would usually tow his boat with my truck. So we woudl burn my truck gas and his boat gas. It worked out good that way. Just talk to him and set something up. If he does not like it then let him sit at home.
Yes I did admit defeat. Good job back to back champion

When I go in someone else's boat, I will offer them $20 for gas, expenses, etc. at the first opportunity, hopefully before we get on the water.

Whenever someone has an open back seat I always pay for at least gas, lunch if needed, and cold frothly adult beverages if I know they like them. It sounds like you have a moocher.

If I go in someone else's boat we either take my truck or I pay for gas, snacks, drinks, lunch etc.
SlabSeeker if your "friend" has enough money to buy beer he can put some gas in your boat and truck. Depending on how good of friends you are I think I would just not invite him anymore. If he calls and wants to go fishing tell him $$$ is tight and you cannot afford it
Freeloaders can fish from the bank!

Maybe you should take someone else sometime, then next time he asks, tell him about how you and your other buddy did the last time. Casually slip in "Ya, he called me up and offered to pay gas and lunch if I'd take him out sometime..." That should get his noodle working.

TreeBass,
You are right and I wll take your advice the next time he asks to go, I will just simply ask him if he has any money. My biggest problem is the fact that we will go to a gas station and he will sit there and watch me pay for gas for the boat and truck and then turn around and go in the store and get him a 6 pack of beer.
I'd slam 5 of those 6 beers right quick as soon as we got to where we were going. Most folks don't like fishin with someone who drinks most of their beer.
