Dear friends,

I have a bit of a situaiton on my hands and don't quite know which way to go but here's the deal.

When I fish with anyone I usually almost all of the time chip in on the trip but this guy I know actually goes with me from time to time never sees to contribute in ny way. So I am to teh point where I don't want to take him anymore only because of his actions. It's not about the money at all its more the principal of the situation. So I am reachign out to fellow fisherman/women for advice on the best course of action?

Flip him upside down and shake out his pockets..... No... Just kindly ask him to chip in..... My friends get free gas and bait from me when they take me, I would never make them ask.....

I would just lay down the law to him. You wanna fish with me then you need to chip in for gas, bait and maybe lunch. Some people do not know how much it costs to fish especially from a boat. Gas for the boat and tow vehicle. Maintenance on the boat all adds up. Bottom line up front, if you don't want to chip in then hit the bank if you want to fish. Back seat isn't always free. My 2 cents. thumb

Dave you are right. I should just let him know what is expected. But you would think that he knew or knows this by him being a previous boat owner.

Some people just want a free ride. What is the outlook on your boat?

Keep on fishing.

Here's the way I see it, if I'm going fising, well, I'm going fishing and one more won't matter. but if its suggested or he says, hey, lets go fishing, well, he needs to fork up.

If he fishes with you regularly, as that appears to be the case, then he should contribute. Sit him down, call him, before you go fishing and explain that boats cost money, and he will need to help out with the cost associated with going fishing.

But do this before you go, that way there will not be an awkwardness while ya'll are fishing. and to make sure he has cash or the means to pay.

I always offer, if I'm with someone else, its common courtesy.

Good luck

TreeBass,

You are right and I wll take your advice the next time he asks to go, I will just simply ask him if he has any money. My biggest problem is the fact that we will go to a gas station and he will sit there and watch me pay for gas for the boat and truck and then turn around and go in the store and get him a 6 pack of beer.

With all my fishing partners it's an unwritten rule to share the trip, weather it be breakfast, gas, lunch, bait, etc. we split it up. Sometimes I say don't worry about it. When I'm with someone else in their boat I always offer, thats just the way it is.
My 2 cents worth.

Yep, it's always best to be up-front with people. Just tell it like it is. Shouldn't be a problem.

A friend and I fish alot together, im usually the one driving since i've got a truck ( we fish from our kayaks). What we did was get a re-loadable debit card and each put 100 bucks on it... I fill up my tank before we leave, and wehen we get back, i use the card. Also any bait / lunch goes on the card while we are fishing, seems to work out pretty good
