How many people are using power poles? I fish the coast several times a year since we have a fimaily house in Matagorda. These seem to work great as I was watching others use them.
However I would like to know more on the pros and cons?
Are they worth the money as for they seem high?

I have a power pole on my flats skiff. In my opinion it is one of the all time great inventions for boaters. They are a no-hassle anchoring system, no ropes to untangle, no getting the anchor hung up on structure. Instant stopping the ist time.No fumbling around. They're out of the way. The pole is also tough, it has a fiberglass replaceble pole. I once took off with the anchor deployed and went for a 1/4 mile before I realized it was still down. No damage at all. Also they come with a remote switch that allows you to deploy the pole from anywhere in the boat. The drawbacks are $$, and they are only good in shallow water. Mine will anchor in up to four ft of water. They do make a power pole that will anchor in 8' I believe. This may or may not be a drawback..When anchoring with a powerpole, it acts as a pivot and the boat will swing around and stop with the bow pointing downwind. To have the best of both worlds, I also have a conventional anchor though I've never needed to use it.All in all, I will never have another boat without a powerpole.

i built a cajun anchor for $5 and it works great. i would get a power pole but i cant afford it right now and with my cajun anchor i can anchor from the side of the boat and keep the boat sideways to the wind so more people can fish with the wind...

I have the 6ft power pole on my shoalwater and I LOVE IT!! All my buddies that fish with me and have their own boats are wanting to get one. Especially great when drifting up within wading range of schooling redfish, very quiet operation. The remote would come in handy (i dont have it) especially if you are downwind of your boat while wading, just pick it up and let it float towards you. Simple operation and if the hydraulic pump does go out there is a way to manually release it. I do wish i would have got the 8 ft though. To be honest i cant think of any downfalls other than the price but not having to worry bout setting an anchor or trying to push the stake out stick in the ground makes it well worth the money!!

Stakeout sticks and cajun anchors are a really good option and both work extremely well and are relatively inexpensive, but you still have the same issues as with an anchor. that is fumbling around with ropes, trying to get them set 'right now' storage, etc. LandPirate, the powerpole is not designed for offshore fishing. In my very humble opinion, once you have used a power pole you will not be content until you have one. Has anyone ever seen a used one for sale?
