I have found that if I'm using Chicken Liver and not getting any bites, there's no fish of any kind where I'm at.
Fishing Chicken Liver in the same spot along with any other baits, Chicken Liver will get the bites, while the others may not.
Went out fishing yesterday in the San Gabriel at Circleville, and yep, got more bites & fish off of the Chicken Liver, while fishing Big Marv's & J Piggs in bascially the same spot at the same time. What a disappointment to know my hard to find baits did not seem to work as well as plain ole Liver.

I discovered a real good way to fish with chicken liver where it stays on the hook a LONG time. Go to the dollar store or anywhere else you can find cheap pantyhose. Cut out a square, say 4 X 4 inches and tie the liver up inside of it, tying the square corner to corner. Then just run the hook through the pantyhose and you got a nice cat bait you can catch multiple fish on without re-rigging. But if you're married, I suggest letting your wife know what you're doing... aint usually a good thing when a guy is running around with pantyhose in his pocket or tackle box.
I don't live for the thump, but I sure do like it.

The "pantyhose trick" does not work as well as I hoped. The panty hose has small openings and the liver did not bleed out.The panty hose also balled up an the hook.
I use a mesh type product you find in the hobby section of most stores. I put pieces of liver in the squares and make balls that I put in the freezer as individual baits. The mesh bleeds better and does not ball up.
Just my .02
I also agree. Liver is a hard bait to beat for all size fish.
I'm a humble fisherman in the service of our Lord. Started fishin at 5 years old and can't stop. I've owned a boat every day from age 16. I fish for every type of fish in every different way.

I've heard of the pantyhose trick, except the people I know that do it use the pantyhose full of liver to chum the fish. Then they throw livers out in the same area after the pantyhose has set for a little while.

Good ole chicken liver always works in the Gabriel. I've also taken my fair share on Sure Shot and Danny King's up the Gabriel. But for some reason the chicken liver works when nothing else seems to. How many did you catch Mike?

I use those special hooks that have a clip apparatus on it. They work good.

Chicken liver works, i use the panty hose trick also. But really most baits will catch fish, you just have to find the fish. The only thing I hate about chicken livers is the smell on your hands. Cant stand it. I usualy take some though 50% of the time. I thought about buying bulk, grinding it up in my wifes favorite blender, and then using it as chum.

I ended up with 5, but I also missed quite a few very good bites while messing with other poles and whatnot. Good ole chicken liver always works in the Gabriel. I've also taken my fair share on Sure Shot and Danny King's up the Gabriel. But for some reason the chicken liver works when nothing else seems to. How many did you catch Mike?

Once I get the liver on my trebble hook, I use about 12 inches of plain old sewing thread wrapped around the entire hook/liver several times. I don't even bother to tie it; just wrap it and let the loose end of the thread dangle. I also keep a small pair of scissors in my bag to cut off the thread that remains after the liver is gone.

I will use chicken liver if it's fresh and hasn't been frozen. A razor sharp knife to cut the lobes and a circle hook work well. You cannot sling it for miles, but you can cast it out with a good spinning rig. Other than that, it's too much work. I prefer shad and punch baits. Liver also leaves a huge mess. I couldn't imagine cutting up pantyhose to put liver in it. That seems like over-engineering what should otherwise be a simple task.

I sometimes think those cats have eyes just looking for you to be doing something else. Then they yank that pole just out of reach!
