The power steering in my 96 487VS Ranger developed a leak while just sitting at home. I forgot to turn off the main circuit breaker that powers all the accessories. Then I noticed an oil puddle on the concrete slab under the outboard. I thought it was just an excess fuel but further inspection revealed the leak was coming from the power steering cylinder that's attached to the outboard.

Is it possible to just repair the leak or I have to replace the cylinder? Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like your talking about a Sea Star hydraulic system ram. They have an end cap repair kit for the cylinder about 120.00 with a quart of oil and both end caps. Requires bleeding the steering system. Instructions available on the Teleflex web sight.

Gary,

Thank you for your reply. Didn't realize that there's such a repair kit until now. Thank you again for your help.
