A friend has had two LTA 7'6" medium heavy rods break about 8 or 10" down when setting the hook. Is anybody else having a problem?

The first one was replaced right away and the second is taking about 5 weeks now and no rod yet.

Yes, on my first hookset! Stick with a Loomis for the money!

This is exactly why I don't own a Kistler and never will.

Wow! Some massive hooksets! I own 14 Kistlers from the Magnesium to the LTX. I'm 6'6 and weigh over 225 lbs. Never broke a single rod. Have owned them for years and have an order in for another rod from their new Argon line up. They can't keep them in stock.
Trey Kistler and family are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. If you have any problems, let them know. They will take care of you.

Ive broken 2 kistlers in the last month, not sure what to attribute it to, one came on the cast and the other came on a hookset. Im returning them and thinking of going with the Argon line as opposed to the Magnesium rods that I broke. Any thoughts on the Argons?

I use $25 Shimanos from Academy and have never had one break or loose a line guide.

My dad used to have the same problem then he switched from Loomis to Kistler. had the same problem with the Kistlers and now he uses the discontinued line of 2IG rods. My mom even breaks the Kistlers they had replaced that my dad gave her. Friend of mine broke over 10 loomis's last year alone. Love my Falcons.LOL. I have only broke 2 in the last 3 years.

What are you guys doing? I have been fishing for 50 years and I have never broken a rod that wasn't my fault. I don't have any Kistler rods or Loomis but I do have some high modulus rods. Those of you using Kistler need to get them replaced soon because Kistler is for sale.

Kistler might be for sale but they are not going anywhere, they are filling orders for their new contracts with Bass Pro, Cabelas, Gander Mountain and just announced Academy.

I think a lot of the rod breaking comes from unintentional rod mishandling. What I am talking about is rod locker damage or accidently stepping on them while they are on the front deck and such. I also think that learning to set the hook properly for the set up you are using also helps. Another thing is in our quest for lighter equipment we have to sacrifice something. Don't get me wrong companies do get bad blanks and so forth but I think we do a lot of the damage on our own and do not realize it. Like jumping 2,3,4 foot waves in the boat while the rods are in the rod locker supported only by the ends of the rod and the heavy part of the rod is whats hanging and flopping around. If the rod company replaces your braken stuff be thankful and be honest on how it broke if it breaks because of something you did then tell them that the more we keep sending in rods that break that is not the companys fault the more the prices will go up.

I think you have to call Trey on the secret Batphone and say the secret password and you will get a replacement the next. Otherwise, maybe you will get it..........sometimes.

I broke my Helium LTA Friday on a hook set on a 12" bass. The rod broke 12-14" down, for that kind of money you kind of expect more. There was nothing wrong with the hookset and the rod was less than 4 months old, and didn't have a scratch on it.

Kistler did make good on replacing the rod. They replaced it with a Helium II.
