You've read the claims about hydrofoils: Advanced Hi-Tech design developed by computerized aerospace engineering .... Gets on plane in half the time without bow pop-up .... 40% fuel savings .... Gives smoother ride, eliminates chine walk and porposeing, and capitation." (Note: Hydrofoils have been known to cut fuel economy.)

How many have and use them on their boats?

Which make and model do you have?

Typically it's a band aid for a bad setup.

I have a friend that has the SE 300 Hydrofoil with the Sport Clip and it really improved his performance at slower speeds.

have Steve tune your prop and you won't need one. They are just a bandaid for needed tuning

For what its worth, I just installed the SE 300 along with the sports clip (no drilling)on my Skeeter last weekend. Before, the front end would almost be pointing stratight up (so it felt) and seamed to take awhile to get out of the hole. But now, front comes up for seconds, then goes down and your on plane. Makes slower speeds better too cause you can see where your going. As for the fuel usage, I must admit, I too need a tune up. As of right now, I'm glad I put it on.

They will slow you down and they kind of look dorky.

I have Stingray on my 21 ft Center Console w/Yamaha 150 EFI. Top end speed was not effected as it just barely touched the water at WOT. Hole shot was pretty good before I installed it but there was a definite hole shot improvement after I installed the Stingray. The only reason I put it on in the first place was an attempt to limit the boat's tendency to lean to the left. It didn't help that problem but I decided to leave it on for the improved hole shot.

My son has one on his 18 foot aluminum bass boat and it helped with getting on plane quicker. No improvement on speed.
