Im looking at making some new lines and i am looking for some advise on what to use.. I heard that a 2 lt coke bottle with some sand inside works well.. and is there an easy way to wrap the line while not in use..perhaps not arround the bottle itself..

I usualy do more limb line fishing than Jug lines.. how deep should i be placing them right now?

I like to rig up with either a barrel swivel or a GOOD snap swivel on the jug, and then the other on the end of my line...allows you to break it down alot easier, and you can just coil the line up and twist-tie it for storage. Might not be such a big deal on jugs, but I know for any kind of trotline/limbline...regular snap swivels, and even the ones with the little cross-lock on 'em...no good...they'll stretch out and let go too easily (i.e., I can tie 'em off to something solid and straighten 'em, but I'm a big guy and prefer to go overkill). Regular barrel swivels are fine...I can stretch 'em out pretty bad w/o too much effort, BUT I never broke one.

Catfish hunter has it right. But putting sand in the jug That is stupid. If you catch a big one, the jug is what keeps it up. With sand in the jug, it will sink alot faster with a big cat and you will never find them. Best to go with at least a gallon jug, and no weight in the jug. Ever seen the movie "Jaws". Those kegs is what brought him up. Same with big cats and jugs. The bigger the jug, the more pressure to bring the big cats up.

Forgot to mention, jugs have to be white in TX. I've been told by a GW around here that ones the color of a milk jug will pass for white, but that's one GW's interpretation, the next may not be as lenient.

The sand in the jug/bottle thing is likely meant to work for flagging, i.e. just enough sand so you can lay the bottle on its side, and when a fish stands it up, the sand runs to the bottom and makes it stay standing up.

No disrespect meant, but a cat pulling on the jug will stand it on end without sand. Rather have the ballast then to much weight in the jug. I guarantee a big cat will pull the jug under water with the sand. If the jug is full of air, it will be harder to keep the jug down.

What I meant is putting just enough sand in it to act as a ballast, not filling it half full or anything, kinda like putting a piece of rebar inside the PVC on a noodle jug. Put just enough sand in it to make it stay standing on end when it's all in the end of the jug so it'll flag after a fish has hit.

I never heard of sand in the jug method . I agree it will stand on end if a big one gets ahold of it, without any sand in it.

I put about a cup full of road gravel in my first set of jugs, They were 1 galon cloroc bottles. They will flag (not bobble) when you have a fish on. No flag go on to the next jug and so forth. Makes running them a little faster. But after going to the flagging jugs with the pvc shafts I will never go back to the gallon jugs. Mainly because they store easier.

heck with jugs. just get you some of those swimming pool noodles, cut them about 10-11" long cut some 1/2 cold water pvc pipe about 13-14" long. put caps on both ends mount the string how you like, there are alot of ways to do it. wrap the with white tape. the jugs are so bulky and it's hard to wrap the string around a jug, no matter how you do it. and hooks and jugs dont mix. with noodles you can wrap the string around the noodle and simply hook it in the noodle. Also noodles take up less room. I use the smaller diameter noodle, just a preferance. I dont have a problem getting th big ones too.

This is a great idea..but do you put the noodles inside the pvc?

you push the pvc through the middle of the noodle. the noodles you buy from academey have a hole in the middle just the right size for 1/2 pvc.

imagine tryin to stuff one of those noodles inside a 1/2 pipe. LMAO, no disrespect intended
