I have used crawfish on occasions but never had any luck. I saw live crawfish for sale and I was wondering if anyone has ever caught catfish with them.

Yes, I have caught lots of cats of crawfish, both on R&R and trotlines. Several years ago I caught a 51 lb blue on about a 6" crawfish on a trotline.
That being said, they are not my live bait of choice for catchin cats, but yes, they do work well at times.

I like to use them in spring. Like Mike, I've caught a 42 lb blue on them. You sure can catch some nice one's, but not my favorite bait. Now fried crawdad tails is another subject.

Crawfish are good bait, but not my favorite choice. The bigger ones are good for trotlines and jugs.

I'm just in search of a way of not coming home smelling like the devils armpit.....

i have good luck with crawdads on lines, but they seem a slow bite bait. Like they do not generate alot of scent for the cats to find.
One exception to all of this the ones that have just "molted" They are soft and rubber skinned. They seem to get bites really fast.
When i can just get the hard ones, I will either keep them in a kiddie pool until they molt or stomp them before putting on the hook if they are hard shelled.

Tks fellas, I think I will buy a few at the store on my way to the lake. They are cheap now and I figure I can bait one rod with them and see how it goes.
