When it's running good it looks like this: That's my buddy Jose de la Cerda fishing on the far bank, and the ATV'ers at the top of the bank were joy riders that just stopped by to watch the water thunder over. Some of the best fishing is in those locks where Jose is standing, and the one on the side from where i took the pics, in that most turbulent water. Huge sandies, hybrids, flatheads and blues come out those spots! Took these pics on 4/1/09. Rudy

Wow, you fish below the spillway, I just assumed your were fishing above the spillway where I would have thought the water was deeper.
Will the sandies hit bombers or spoons? How deep is the water in the lock area?
I am going to make it out there but, I will not abuse it, just want a little taste. Thanks for sharing!

water in this lock area is about 4 ft deep. spoons maybe but be prepared to lose several spoons, lots of debris and rocks in there. Jigs move with the current and are harder, believe it or not, to hang up than something like a spoon.

How far from any good road is the hike to this spot? Looks like it can be a "fair piece" trekking into this honey hole.

I drive right up to the dam! But if you don't know where that all weather road is, you'll never find it.
It's better this way.

That spillway is just north of where 183 runs into regal row.Just east of Texas stadium.Century center blvd.looks to be the rd that you need to find a spot to enter.Your welcome!!!Ive fished there many times in the past.Might be a different way to get there now.Ther are pigs down there these days as my freinds bow hunt them down there.

I hit the spillway about noon today for the first time..Could not find the dirt road leading to the dam...so I parked in a business parking lot and walked to the spillway...First cast I hooked a huge blue but the hook came loose....no other bites for an hour...I am gonna hit it tomorrow when the conditions should be better hopefully....seems like a spot to land a hog!
My fish is bigger than yours!
