There was a thread on here earlier that discussded the problems they were having (1) getting the docks approved and (2) getting changes in the structure approved. It's all on hold until the city's done jerking them around.

All i know is someone is probably getting canned from BPS's real estate development team for not actually doing the Due Diligence on dock building regulations, I am sure this is costing them quite a bit of money since they should be open and making a profit... And i think that BPS should send everyone who lives on that side of the metroplex a free gift card since we gotta keep driving all the way over to the other side of the world... Thats really a Pain in the @ss..... noidea

They are in a legal dispute with a hotel that is on the other side of the lake over naming rights. Something to do with the hotel they are building is a conflict of interest with the one across the lake or something along those lines. My mom was the closer on the land, I will ask her the details on it. If you ask me, it doesn't look like thier is enough room to build everything on it they want to build.

I'm friends with one of the G.M.'s at Bass Pro Grapevine who is also the Regional Manager for our area and several other states and he told me last week that it won't be open until Fall 2006.

Here is what I found on the DMN:

Bass Pro tried to alter store plans, but city wasn't biting
Garland: Compromise reached after panel objects to new design

08:47 AM CST on Sunday, October 30, 2005
By RICHARD ABSHIRE / The Dallas Morning News

Bait and switch?

Was that what Garland Plan Commission members thought when they saw the changes Bass Pro Shops wanted to make to the store it's building at Harbor Point on Lake Ray Hubbard?

"Our vote tells you what we thought of it," said Plan Commission Chairman B.J. Williams. "But I'm not going to use those terms."

The commission voted last month to deny the proposal.

Mr. Williams said the changes which included replacing a "water feature" with a dry creek bed, eliminating an outside deck area associated with a restaurant, removing a fly fishing pier and lopping off a couple of gables and an access point on the east side of the store were not in the spirit of the plans the commission originally approved for a top-of-the-line store.

"It was like buying tickets on a cruise ship and getting to the pier and there's an oil tanker," Mr. Williams said.

City planners took issue with the proposed design. Doing away with the gables, they said in a staff report, "would reduce building articulation and create a more monotonous building faade."

Mayor Bob Day said Bass Pro responded to the Plan Commission's rebuff by sending senior executives to Garland to work out a compromise.

"When the Plan Commission denied them, I think it got their attention," Mr. Day said. "They met with us, and we got everything back that we wanted."

Bass Pro corporate spokesman Larry Whiteley said he was unable to comment because the executives involved were not available.

Mr. Day said Bass Pro's primary purpose for the changes was to reduce the building's "footprint" by squaring it up and rotating it slightly. The new design would make the first floor smaller and the second floor larger, increasing the overall size of the store by about 4,000 square feet to a total of 118,952 square feet.

Those aspects of the design weren't major concerns for city officials, Mr. Day said, but he and others did want to preserve what they saw as critical exterior elements such as the water feature, the deck and an articulated roofline.

At its Oct. 4 meeting, the council approved an amended design with those features restored.

"Everybody came to a compromise, and we're going full-speed ahead with it now," Mr. Day said. "Everybody's happy with it."

"This is a clear example of the system working," said Mr. Williams.

Sometimes I think the world has gone completely mad. And then I think, "Aw, who cares?" And then I think, "Hey, what's for supper?"
