Yea, seems you can post this same thread every week, it's a regular occurrence! Fork is getting more bad pub for these thefts then good pub for big bass being caught. It's eventually going to catch up and people are going to start staying away. It's unfortunate the local business owners, especially at these marinas, don't spend a little bit of money on security to prevent this [censored] from happening. I guess they don't care about their future business.

Any guesses on the odds these breakins being related to meth?
I can understand the plight of the business owner. Added security costs = higher costs to the consumer in an already over competitive market place. However if it was my business that was being affected I could see myself walking around with a shotgun at night.

Was on my way home from Fork last weekend. Saw a bunch of trashy, skinny, young dudes on the south side of 515 playing horseshoes and drinking. The thought occured to me that these might be some of the local culprits. I know, I'm profiling but these guys were white trash, all the way.
One other thing that has been bothering me about these break-ins. Where is all this stuff ending up? Did anyone ever find any of their stuff in Canton or at any other "flea" markets?
This has been going on around various lakes forever. The tough economy seems to have contributed to a recent spike in theft of all kinds, not just fishing equipment.
But back to the fishing equipment, where do you think this stuff is being sold, or is it? I'm a bit perplexed because the volume of stolen (and yet unrecovered) gear just from around Fork is huge. It would have to raise some fishermen's eyebrows if a $700 rod/reel combo was being sold for $100.
As for the marina owners paying for security, that's only part of the problem. Until this wave of crude subsides, please take your stuff out of your boat at night!
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

That is a good question, where is all these high dollar rod and reels ending up? ebay or a white van at the home depo parking lot. what would most of us do if a stranger pulls up in a parking lot with a 700 dollar rod and reel for 75? I would like to think I would tell them to get the hell away.

I would think that the authorities would put together a stake out, and catch these SOB's I mean really how difficult would it be. A van in the parking lot with a boat hooked to it with the police waiting inside. Get a few of these idiots and the word gets out that this [censored] is not going to be taken anymore. Just an idea, it hasent happend to me yet and I hope it never does, and I feel terrible for the guy's that this has happened to. JR

The businesses need to see if the local sheriff's office have a crime prevention unit and if so schedule them to come to their respective businesses and conduct a security survey. It entails ways to better secure their property. These surveys are free.

Ever notice those 18 wheeler or storage trailers way at the back of certain properties. I notice more and more popping up especially in rural areas, makes you wonder if its not a theft ring like this http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/BADge-Behavior.html

Ya , are we really sure its to the level as claimed???? Could be the locals spreading this rumor to keep people from coming and fishing . Locals can be real nasty like that. Just a thought. I had a local run up on me with a gun one time red and screaming how he pays 200 thousand for his spot and no one should get close.

Theft and crime out here is far worse than Dallas..they don't report anywhere near the stuff they should. The good old boy thing is way out of control out here..but it will be changed!
