My boyfriend and I went out to Lake Bryan last friday to fish. As we were backing the trailer into the water, everything seemed to be going fine; he got into the boat and I backed up a little more so that he could launch the boat. When I put my car into drive I started to slip backwards into the water and i couldn't get any traction...I could hear my exhaust pipe blowing bubbles in the water. scared

By the grace of God, someone offered to pull my car with their truck. They chained my car up and as we both stepped on the gas, my car was going nowhere. Just then, 4 guys in another boat jumped off and swam to help us out...turns out my trailer had fallen off of the ramp, and due to the low water conditions had gotten caught in some mud. They pulled out my trailer, and after that, with a little tug from the truck...my car was above water again! clap

I just wanted to thank the people that were out there that day for helping us. It is so great to know that there are still some good folks sitll out there willing to lend a hand!

I've seen that here in Belton. They were pulling an aluminum boat with a toyota camry!! True that aluminum was light but very risky IMO! I love to fish, but thats puttin alot at risk with these slippery ramps and all!

Car can mean more than a small compact... She drives an SUV. Toyota Rav4...

The only reason the "car" slipped backwards is because the trailer started off to far in the water and therefor it pulled her back...

Anyways.. point of the story is that these guys were absolutely the nicest people for helping us, and actually jumping out of their boat in 60 degree water to help us.. Thank you guys if yall are on here!

unless that Rav4 is a 4 wheel drive, I still wouldn't be pulling a boat with it. Thats a 4 cyl. engine on a very small frame. I bet the curb weight is barely 3,000 lbs. It would be pretty easy for a trailer to pull that thing off the road.

I'm not trying to dog on your girl's car man. My wife drives a Mazda. But pulling a boat, even a Jon, ya might think twice...

Haha.. well it is a 6 cyl engine actually. On the same frame as the Toyota Tacoma... I bet if she drove a Tacoma you wouldnt say anything... and the curb weight is approx 3800lbs... It has a towing capacity of 3500 lbs I think and the total weight of the boat, and the trailer combined is about 400-600 ponds.. soooooooo I am pretty sure it can handle it!

But thanks.

I was just posting this to thank the guys...I am glad that there are still some good people out there...

My "car" (ie SUV) does just fine pulling the trailer, its traveled many miles with it, I have no worries!

Not sure why people are having trouble understanding this... so I drew some pictures of the scene....

First, you will see that Hollie backed the trailer into the water... the sign as we backed up said "Warning, Low water" So as we backed it in the trailer went to far in and therefore got off the edge of the ramp into the mud... This caused the trailer to then sink some into the mud and get stuck... I was in the boat and I pushed off...

Then after the trailer was stuck we couldnt get it out... so a really nice guy got his truck and chained it up to Hollies SUV and then tried to pull it, but it wouldnt move because the trailer was stuck... so like 5 guys jumped out of their boat about 30 yards off the boat ramp and swam to help us... They lifted on the trailer and we all pulled and we were off.....

Here is an illustration of this second scene in case anyone is confused..

So I see from the picture that you stayed in the boat and watched the other guys swim over and help get the trailer unstuck.
