My boss was on Fork with a vendor of ours and look what tried to get in the boat with them!!! They were in alligator cove when this happened. Does anyone know what type of snake this was?
There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the boat looking like an idiot.

It is hard to say by those pics BUT it is either a water snake or a cottonmouth.

Wish you could've gotten a closeup photo of the head. Think you could get closer next time?

Besides the coloration, it appears much too long to be a cottonmouth. The record, if I recall, is only around 5 feet. Another harmless snake dispatched by someone who should do some studying of them--might make them a whole lot less scary.

Looks like a Texas Rat Snake to me, harmless and the only reason it was coming into your boat was because it's not a water snake. When a non water snake type snake crosses the water they take the shortest path, that snake veiwed your boat as a stepping stone to reach the other side. What a shame, that's a huge, fully grown Rat Snake.

I'll add this also, I grew up in south Florida and always had an intrest in snakes. I kept snakes that I caught as pets even poisonous ones. With this being said, I've lived here in Central Texas for 3 years now and have fished just about every lake in the area at least a dozen times and I have yet to see a Water Mocasin. I have seen numerous water snakes but never have I come across a water mocasin. I'm not saying they don't exist, I'm just saying that 99% of the snakes you guys see in the water are going to be harmless. I have seen several Copperheads, matter of fact I've never seen this many Copperheads anywhere else. I also hunt so I spend alot of time in the woods along with the lakes. In my three years here, the Coperhead is the only poisonous snake I've come across so far.
