Well guys I was thinking of going down to Port A tonight and trying some inshore fishing down there. My fiance and i are driving from Dallas and really just plan on fishing Friday for a couple of hours. Im still new to fishing but I really want to try this. We really dont want to have to spend so much money on a charter boat or anything like that, we just want to try some inshore fishing. Do you guys have any suggestions for me on what I should do? We would be driving down tonight and fishing tommorow during the day. I know it might be a little late but it was a spur of the moment thing. Any info or help would really be appreciated.

I would hit the Jetties first thing in the morning. Maybe try fishing the surf side and the channel side. You can also take a ride on the Jettie boat for a few bucks (think it cost like $10) and they will take you over to the North Jettie and drop you off and come back in like 3-4 hours to pick you up. Just make sure you are not on the LAST BOAT or you will be out there all night long. Other than that you may want to try the pier on the surf, the pier that is in the channel by the ferry boats or if you have a 4x4 you can drive out to the point (about 5 miles or so) to the right of the ferry boat landing if you are coming from Aransas Pass towards Port-A. Best of luck to ya and TIGHT LINES!!!

Are there places that rent out the fishing rods out there and are there any hotels near there?

If i were you i take a bucket (with an air pump) full of live shimp to the jettys and have a ball prob catch lots of sheep head, trout, red, take a few casting lures for spanish and snook, like a rattle trap, spoon and a jerk bait.

Right now I would leave the boat at home, and go to Port A, and go out with Deap Sea Headquarters on one of their weekday trips. Cost about $100 (cheaper than towing boat and boat fuel etc.)

My son and I went out last Wednesday with them, and spent the entire 12 hours (-6 hours travel time) catching Black Fin Tuna just as fast as we could put our lines in the water. I gave up after my 4th catch and 7th breakoff because my asthma kicked in and I forgot my inhaler. My son went on to catch 6 blackfin and 5 Bonita.

We ended up bringing 60+ pounds of fillets home from that single trip. Boat headed in 2 hours early because we filled the ice boxes and there was no more room for the fish.

If I wasn't on the road the next 2 weeks I would be there every wednesday for this trip, and I would buy a nice 2 speed reel to use instead of their Penn 4/0 reels.
