Where can I find these tasty little buggers near Austin?

I have managed to catch one on Lake Travis so far, and he was a tiny little guy, who was released.

mmmm fish!

Lady Bird Lake, Barton Springs, Decker Lake, San Marcos River, Guadalupe River, Blanco River, Colorado River, Travis, Pedernales, Cypress Creek and Onion Creek all have good populations of decent to very nice sized sunfish. Try Decker around the cattails in about 1 month, or anytime in a river. Use mealworms or small worms like red wigglers, or very small jigs fished slow on light line. Fish deeper - the larger sunfish hold deeper than the little guys - about 1-2 feet below how far the sunlight penetrates the water, which might be 10 feet down on Travis, or 4-6 feet in a river.

There are some really nice, big bream in Town Lake, oops, Lady Bird Lake that hang out around the back of Fiesta Gardens and the Camacho Activity Center in the shallows. If you have a canoe, kayak or small boat (no motors except electric), try that area and also around the cattails.

Had a little afternoon program with the kids from the Camacho Center, and they hammered the big bream (3/4lb to almost a pound) on worms a year or two ago during this month matter of fact!
