So decided to go out to Benbrook today and fish. I think my girlfriend rubbed anti-fish all over my boat, because I couldnt buy a bite. I threw my arm off from 2 til 930 (ok so I trolled, casted, dropped, you name it). I charted fish all around the damn, and casted Sassie's, white slabs, silver slabs, rattle traps (I even through a buzz bait because there were fish hitting the top of the water all around me). I finally ended the day with practicing some casting net in the shallow waters, getting ready for striper fishing this weekend. I figured since I had caught some shad, I would try some live bait. So I drove back to the damn shortly after dark and couldnt find hardly ANY fish on the finder. I was charting large schools of fish all afternoon, and then afterdark, nothing. Do they go somewhere different at night??

Anyway, needless to say, it was a nice day on the water, and the weater was great!

Glad you enjoyed the weather and the water. I have a feeling Benbrook is still either too cold or still recovering from the crazy water conditions from 2007. You might try the mid lake humps about a half mile south of the dam. Other than that I have no clue.

Well...I have not been there in a while, but it sounds like you were in the right area and you should have found active fish in 5-12' near the dam on the west end or the humps along the dam. If you were deeper...that probably was not the right area...

I know that this time of year with these weather patterns that I have done better with a slow presentation of smaller lures -- basically tap them on the nose with it. Works for Hybrids, white bass and even crappie this time of year. I hope to be out some this weekend.

Jeremy D. Dont feel alone, i hear people get irritated all the time with Benbrook. The more you fish you will realize it is real unconsistant. With weather weve been having it makes it even tougher. The water level has come up quite a bit in the last few weeks also. Benbrook is a great lake, you just have to patient.

Like Fuzzy said. This time of year its all about presentation, SLOW!!!. You were in the general right area for this time of year. If we can get some stable weather for about a week or so, it will turn on great. The water temp is right around 60-61 so its coming around.

I have been catching 8-9 lbers last few weeks. Not great numbers but quality fish. I truly believe that the record hybrid 12.75lb will be broken this year on BB. Reason i think that is because last year and the year before we were catching and releasing boat loads of 17in and 18in Hybrids. They are still there only Bigger now.

Jeremy, if you wanna holler at me next time your going out, i will show around. Im taking this week off due to getting boat ready for this weekend. Its me and the wifes anniversary and we spend the whole weekend on Richland chambers every year.

i dont fish benbrook too much anymore because of catching very few fish. when they are feeding and dont want ur offering , ive always go down in lure size . ive been known to throw heavy weighted bobbers tied with flee flys or crappie jigs. just a technique that helps me . hope this helps for those that fish benbrrok or just anywhere .

If I'm lucky I'll die with a 7' spinning rod in my hand.

I think I am going to head out tomorrow and try some live shad. I gave up fishing around dark and practiced my casting net and actually caught a TON of shad. Well see if they prefere the real thing. I was in the bass tracker V16. I am a musician and have an audition I am preparing for, so chances are I had my Ipod headphones on. I find the lake (even not catching fish) is the most relaxing place to be in the metroplex!

That's so crazy that the record is only 12.75... My whole life I thought it was 13.5. I caught this one last year and it weighed in at 13.1 It was 31.25" long and was caught in May. The same day my wife caught one that was 11.5 lbs. I guess the next time I catch one over 13, I'll have it weighed by TPW... that's a 20 year record I could've broken if I had known the real record. Thanks Benbrook Guide
