You guys have talked me into it. I'm getting a surveillance camera and a boat alarm system.

Over the years I have lost a trolling motor, batteries, and even the 6 hp motor off my little aluminum boat.

Recently, I have lost a huge tackle box with probably $1,000 worth of stuff in it...a Weedeater...and just a couple of weeks ago the brand new net I bought and left over my seat (everything else in the boat was locked up).

I feel certain it is the unemployed neighborhood *^#@)* who lives down the street from me, but so far I can't prove it. The surveillance camera would do the trick.

When I catch him...and I WILL catch him...I may not shoot him. But he may wish I had, because I am going to beat the *%#@ out of him bad enough that he won't ever want to *&$@ with anyone else's property again.

It won't be one of these one punch, or tackling him and holding him for the police deals. I intend to hurt him...bad.

I'm getting mad all over again just thinking about it.

If I thought I could get away with the 120 volt option and was sure I wouldn't injure an innocent person or animal, I'd love that idea.

Years ago, a man in Kerrville rigged his trash cans with electricity to keep away stray dogs. It wasn't done correcly and killed a three year old boy. Probably not a good idea. Hope you catch those worthless thieves.

I think it's illegal to rig a lethal booby trap to protect property. Under certain conditions it is legal to use deadly force to protect yourself or your family but I don't think that includes property. Thats why the death sentence only applies to murders.

I'd setup another net on the front of you boat, with a nice electric cord running to a something that will give him a shock and hopefully a mark. When you catch it on tape and see a mark from where he grabbed it, its over. Instead of electricity leaving the mark you could get something covert like on CSI that glows under a black light even after washing it off. That would be cool and even more reason to start beating someone.

I cant stand theives either. They really dont like alarms, someone broke into my truck 2 weeks ago in front of my house, less than 15 ft from my front door, as soon as the keyless entry alarm went off they were gone. I never even heard the glass break, its not like on TV when it shatters and makes a loud noise. I wish I would have caught them too, but I will have to wait till next time.

Survielance Cameras are getting pretty cheap. You might not catch them that night but you would have more of a chance of catching them. Here is a link to some pretty cheap cameras

It is probably kids at home for the summer and parents off at work I would imagine.

leave you boat uncovered and put the rods just laying in the boat, then go hide in the bushes with your 12 guage. then when they come to steal from you, make a citicinze(sp?) arrest.

If you know youare going to get ripped off wouldnt it be cheaper to take the batteries in doors to charge them?

From my perspective, a surveillance system is the way to go if you can afford it. Most thieves that hit again and again will probably be known by your local police and, if caught on video, you've got a slam-dunk case with perfect evidence.

A note on home surveillance through your PC: I saw something a while back on the systems that you can access from anywhere (to check your house on vacation, etc). Great development in technology, but make sure to change and update the password pretty regularly, otherwise you give a technologically-privy thief a view of your home, too! Most thieves are not going to go to that length to get inside, but always better to err on the side of caution.

oh, and by the way, leave a piss-- off rattler in the box.....
Just make sure its quite dark, so they have to reach in the nice looking box.
