There are a lot of cats on Conroe but I prefer Lake Livingston. Jug lines or rod and reel on Livingston will catch a lot of blues. If you can take the kids in the next few weeks on Conroe you will be able to catch all the cats you want along the bulkheads. Throw a float with a shrimp or shad about 2 ft under the float and hang on.

In June, the fishing under the 1097 bridge for catfish is very popular. Also, if you head north into the stumps toward Cagle, you should have luck.

Lake Conroe is a superb catfishing reservoir - I've been to many reservoirs in the South, and I would consider Conroe to be one of the best in regards to the channel and blue catfish fishery. If you will be fishing from a boat, you can catch catfish anywhere south of the 1097 bridge (the fishing is great north or the bridge within the national forest; if can get a little stumpy). Staying in or near the river channel and the adjoining creek channels would be the best best (especially in June). Drift fishing with several rods baited with shrimp is the way I would go (of course, cut shad, chicken livers, etc. always produce).

Flash, I agree with you. I have caught a lot of catfish from Lake Conroe on rod and reel as well as on juglines. Catching a limit of channel cats is common for people familiar with the lake. For this, I fish around boat docks or in the stumps on the northern end of the lake. I always use a few handfulls of range cubes for chum and I have the best luck using chicken liver while most people seem to use a variety of punch baits.

When yall say stumps, are yall talking bout those that are just north of 1097 or even further up? Is there a store or gas station that carries range cubes near scotts ridge?

Snow, if you go down Calvary road toward stow-away marina there is a little store/bait shop on the right hand side( I think it is called sunshine or something like that). They generally have the small range cubes along with minnows, goldfish, worms, etc. If you launch out of stow-away, go left under the bridge (calvary road bridge) and then to the right when you get to the main part of the lake( around 1/2 mile). From there, you will see the tree tops, or stumps. Use caution when you go among them. I generally catch the river channel and fish the stumps on the edge of it.
