I have a 87 16' Cajun Demon. It has a 50hp force motor. I can get 25mph with just me a my stuff. I get 22 with me and three kids. It has a stock aluminum prop. Would a new prop be worth the money? What could I expect from a new prop? How much are they? Thanks in advance for any help. Brad.

only diffrence will be made is if your current prop is beat up. Your prop is about 85-90% of your motors preformance. I wouldn't suggest trying to change the pitch or anything. A stainless steel prop is gonna run a couple-few hundred easy. Shop around. The steel props will take a hit with minimal damage unlike an aluminum which will damage easy, but if your prop is in good condition then you will see a little or no difference. Also if it is beat up a little you can have it repaired at a much cheaper cost. good luck

My own personal experience is a stainless prop
the same size and pitch will perform a little
better, I would not have believed it if someone
had told me this but the aluminum must have some
give under pressure where the stainless doesnot
plus the stainless will hold up better, shop for
a used or reconditioned stainless mine was less
that a hundred bucks and well worth it. On a 16
ft boat with 50hp you probably will not gain any
speed account not enough HP to push it well but
the stainless is still the best investment for
durability. The stainless did show an
improvement on my 120HP and 17ft boat over the
aluminum. Hope this helps some

I just recently change my prop from an aluminum to a stainless. Did not notice much change in speed. Maybe 2 or 3 mph. I am defiantly getting a faster hole shot. My main reason for changing was due to having to replace to many aluminum props because of stump damage.

I have a 14'3" Jon boat with a 15 horse Mercury outboard. (I bought the boat & motor I wanted, no need for more boat or motor). The motor came with a prop with a 9" pitch. I put on it a Stingray Jr. hydrofoil & a prop with a 10 1/2" pitch. I have about a 20-25% increase in speed and the boat jumps up on plane in a much shorter distance. My point: a prop with more pitch puts out more force/power. Make sure your motors horsepower to boat weight ratio can take more pitch if you do this. I also agree with the idea that stainless steel is stiffer than aluminum.

Thanks for the help. My prop is still good. I'll probably just stick with it.
