Took the boat out at JP this afternoon about 1:30 to browse whether any shallow emerged so I have some fun before the cold front hit. An hour later...I loaded up the boat w/ a green trash accounted for. Just as I got off the lake, the wind started the white-capping...wow...that was great timing.
Since I am already out there, I thought I might as well try fishing the slips for about an hour. Not expecting them to bite due to heave NW wind which dropped the temp down 10 degree immediately and keep on dropping.

Started at 3:30pm and to my surprise, they do bite..and bite good. I must have caught 3 limits of dinks... Gave my first 4 keepers to a guy who didn't do to well. He left due to the strong cold wind....anyhow...they kept on biting, I kept on fishing 'til 7:00 before I couldn't handle the howling wind any longer..and still ended up a with a good mess.

Who would have thought they would bite in this crazy weather. Here they are...

I tried it up off 922 from the bank, it was howling, caught 1, an 8 1/2 lb green lip trash fish at 4:30, on a minnow. It was fun on my crappie pole and crappie hook. I fished for about another hour, but didn't get another bite. Glad to hear someone caught some crappie!!!

I had a very similar experience at the office today, they started biting around 10am and I left them biting at 1:30pm...

22 keepers, most were small with two 1.5 pounders...I threw back 20 between 9-9.5 inches...

It was a fun day...

which slips did you fish - Lynn Creek? My dad fishes out there almost every day and has been doing pretty well.

Heyyyy! That stringer looks awfully familiar! Last time I saw it, it looked like this! I hope your buddy from Houston enjoyed cleaning all of those! LOL

Since that stringer is rarely used...I might as well put it to good use ...Adding a little extra crappie slim will bring you good luck by the time I return it to you Terrance....hahahha Who's is that kid holding the stringer anyway? heheheh We all did get into some good fish that day, didn't we...

BTW...I am planning our trip soon...will let you know buddy!

You got that right CV! If I remember correctly, that was the 1st time it was used. I'm sure the time above was the 100th!! LOL Thanks for sliming it up for me. Lord knows I need all the help I can get. That kid holding the stringer is one of your students like me. We have the same class a lot of the time! He apparently pays better attention than I. That was the day I made my deal with the Crappie Gods... I'm sure she's in somebody's freezer by now!

No worries buddy. Looking forward to hooking up with you for my next Crappie tutorial! Between you and Guy, something's eventually gotta stick!

Very flattered to know, and thank you if I must say for the compliment, however, I do believe that you 2 gentlemen have done far more than your fair share of picking up things on your own to be at your current caliber. It's anybody game now if all 3 of us are on the same boat!!!

Thanks CV. I think we have gotten a lot better of the last 6 or 8 months, and paid lots of dues (i.e. not catching many fish) to get to where we are now, but we still have lots of room for improvement. At least I do! BTW, it may be anybody's game, but the odds makers in Vegas knows that there's a clear favorite!!

I agree they aren't up shallow in the main part of the lake. There should be a few in the creeks on the south end of the lake. I checked my callender and they don't start spawning on J.P. untill April through May.
