Tried out a friends kayak today. Things I found out about them:
1) Be Prepared to get wet. Lean to far to the left - oops water inside, lean to far to the right - more water.
2) If you are 60 and have a bad back that cramps and makes your hips hurt - Kayaks are not for you.
3) If you are 60 and don't like sitting in one place for a long while - kayaks are not for you. Kayaks have very little space for moving around and if you try - oops water over the side.
4) I am sure kayaks are more fun than a bucket of monkeys - just not for me. Thanks for all your inspiration though.
I TRIED!!!

I TRIED!!! At least you tried!! But I hope that other newbies don't look at this and shy away, or do I? The least amount of yakers will keep the price of my hobby down! Sounds like you tried a Pelican ThrowAway!

A higher fish count will dissapate alot of the soreness you are feeling. As long as you are a better fisherman, than kayaker, you'll be fine in the long run. As for SS... Your post sounds like your slinging more than sticks, Bro!!! Btw - What's a Pelican ThrowAway? LOL

Don't give up. You have to go to a demo day and try many models till you find the one for you. I would recomend the Native Ultimate 12 for you. I think if you were to try it you would enjoy it. My dad is 64 and just bought his first yak. A Ma;ibu Pro Explorer. He had heart surgery two months ago and has horrible knees. I took him in the river last weekend and he hung in there like a pro. He was a little sore but he caught so many fish that it wasn't mentioned. Don't give up just yet.

I have degenerative arthritis in 4 discs in my lower back. When they pinch a nerve it causes a burning hot pain in m hip and leg. Not being able to change positions regularly leads to agony. A 2 seat pontoon probably will be a better choice - at least I checked the Yaks out.

Look at the Native Watercrafts Ultimate 12. They have the most comfortable seat. It is a hybrid, half kayak, half canoe. You can even stand in it to stretch out.

You might want to try the plastic pond pounder, bass buster, whatever they are being called... I purchased one so I could hit small ponds all year without getting wet yet easy for one person to haul around. I bought the 8'and it is fine for 1 person with plenty of room to stand up (stable enough as well), slightly move around/stretch out, store bait, access accessories, etc. Good luck...
My opinion is worth what you paid for it...
The phenomenon formerly known as Weather shall now on be called Climate Change.

If you haven't given up totally there will be a very large selection of yaks ( probably over 30-40 for demo) and experienced paddlers to help you out at the May 9th get together at marshal creek park on Grapevine. Right now we have 3 dealers committed and I am sure there will be several more.
It may be that a yak just isn't for you, but I suspect you were poorly matched to what you were in if you were getting wet and couldn't adjust your position easily. My 58 year old bad back doesn't even like getting up in the morning, but after a few minutes in my Hobie, it feels a lot better.
Shoot me a PM if you would like a ride in something else. (I am not a dealer)

Go to a demo every thursday night at white rock lake. It's mariner sales and they will let you demo whatever you want. It would probably smarter to call them first but they will help you.
