Your so lucky to have access like that. Whare abouts on the river is it? Down river from Blue Sage or up river? Blue Sage

Very nice....you got me looking to book my next trip. We have been at least once a year since '96 here are a few pics. Dolan Falls One of several 5lbs. + SMB + LMB Combo
The day after catching a lot of fish is still a good day.

I caught a ton of LMB, and a handful were in the 3-5 lb range. All of the SMB were < 2 lbs though. Is that just bad luck on my part or should I try a different technique and lure?
The people who lived where I stayed told me that the section of the river I fished used to be full of big SMB, but the LMB have over populated the area. Do you think that could be true?

I have been lucky enough to fish the Devils and loved it. The big smallies are smart in that clear water. I caught several over 4 up to 5.5 and the trick for me was downsizing everything. I started with my regular bass tackle and moved all the way down to UL spinning tackle with 2-4 lb test. Small soft plastic crawdad baits on 1/16 oz jighead was the ticket for Feb smallies for me. We were further up river, but what a beautiful piece of river. Once we had that pattern it was on. Never caught any big lm up river. Thanks for sharing and great pics!

a very good BIG smallmouth bait is anything that looks like a small Largemouth..... Maybe that was my problem. I was using fairly big baits and catching nice size LMB. Next time I'll try something else to target the SMB. If I catch one over 5 lbs, I'm putting a replica on my wall.

Great Pictures. I had a friend just tell me about a recent trip there. He said nothing compares.

I used to be on a deer lease down there about 20 miles west of Loma Alta, it is an amazing place down there. I hunted down there for years and never knew that river was awesome until the end. One guy we knew had a deer lease right on the river and he shot some of the biggest whitetails I have ever seen.
