Sad situation. Prayers to the family.

Sometimes we all get complacent and take chances because we believe that we can handle it. Other times accidents just happen. As others have stated, be safe and use lifejackets, kill switch, etc. if you are going to be out.

Sure hate to hear about any deaths on our lakes. Prayers.

A couple years ago I started a thread asking the question "How much is too much wind?" Had several pages of discussion and terrific advice about these very conditions. Wind can be so dangerous and it goes bad in 5 seconds. As a relatively new boater, I know that thread has kept me out of trouble. Not sure how to search for it. It would be great for review just as the spring winds kick-in.
My prayers are extended to his family and friends.

Bob
I appreciate the TFF.

I hope they find peace.

I would not be too critical of the decision to go out and fish, if I am someday so lucky to have a grandson, and I get the call " hey grandpa lets go fishing" it would be a cold day in he77 that I would say no.

Really tragic death, but not the worst way to go, I'd prefer that, then rotting in a nursing home..

They are together I hope.....,

Jackie Kennedy and i have been out looking for them most of the day. The boat was found and recovered that night by Jerry's brother. It was actually seen drifting unmanned by Jerry's wife at oak cove marina where they were supposed to be coming back in. They have a good idea where they went overboard by the GPS track and it wasnt far from the marina. The wardens and deputies were doing all they could today to recover them. The red cross was there also to aid the family and people in the search effort. TXDOT sent out a helicopter with foward looking infrared cameras last night after they were reported missing and found nothing. Channel 11 news was there searching with their helicopter today as well.
We went out with local guide Bob Holmes and used his side scan sonar as long as weather permitted. I cant thank both him and Jackie enough for aiding in recovery.
Jerry and Jerrod were both very experienced fishermen and boaters. They fished often in conditons like those of yesterday chasing catfish in the shallows. Im think there may have been some physical problems involved before and at the time of the accident.
Jerry a very family oriented man was a close personal friend and will be missed by many many people.
Big thank you of appreciation to the people helping.

BTW the kill switch was in the off position with the shifter just bumped up to foward idle when recovered.

Just wanted to extend my sympathy, and wanted to add a few words of wisdom. I have been fishing offshore for 16 yrs now and i know what its like when it gets bad i mean real bad. I live through hurricane himberto in a 30ft cat whitch was said to be 2-4ft seas that day. Never go out with any bildge pump out, i know in fresh water yall dont use them that much but it can get bad in a hurry and youll need it. I was on canyon lake a few yr back which is small, and boom i was in 70mph winds. Storm black everything out all i had to go by was my chart plotter I was in a 24 striper cuddy which was made for ligh5t offshore use was the only reason we didnt lose a boat or more that day. A manuel bildge is good to have as well. Know calm places incase you cant make it to dock in time, i cant do that offshore but fresh water you can. I only 26 but fishing is my life and i love the sea but water is a nasty thing and it has givin me a go 3 times now so its not if its when will it happen cause if you spend alot of time on the water it will happen. Also I have had 3 men go over board offshore with me aswell DONT go in after them and leave to boat with no one in it you bailing isnt gonna help them keep the boat where they can get to it.
