Ok. Here it is. I never really wore polarized glasses fishing, let alone driving. In my car, the windows are not tinted, but in my friends they are. Question: Why is there a color spectrum when you are wearing poloarized glasses looking threw tinted windows vs. untinted windows?

_Hey HLS: Very Good Question acctually!! laugh It has to do with light wave frequecies visible to the Human Eye.

_The Polarized Lenses have Angular reflected light filter elements to and also ommit certain light wave frequecies depending on the lense tint color. When you look thru tinted windows they also have light filtering elements to ommit certain light wave lenghts. This helps elliminate Ultra Violate A & B wave lenghts which also helps to keep you car/truck cooler.

_ So in combination the two light wave lenght filtering tints you're looking thru bend the light waves to give off that Rainbow effect you see.

_I hope this less than Scientific/Laymen's Terms condenced version of what is acctually happening gives you some Idea of why you see what you do.

_Good Luck and Catch A Big'un Yall!! wink

It has to do with the way light bounces of Venus. The wavelength of the light is changed as it passes through the diatomes in the atmosphere. The tinted windows weaken the frequency of the condrules and the mono silicate backing on the glasses that polarizes the lights refracts through the particles creating a prismatic or "color spectrum" effect.

Bazztex- That explained it just fine. Thank you
Mr Wiggles - are you serious about the Venus thing?
Brad - I am with you

Thanks for the help.

You're all wrong! The colors you see are from the effects of the little pill that you take!! laugh laugh

Nautilus - I wasn't born there, I moved there. But, it could be something in the air or water.

Polarizers don't filter wavelenghts/frequencies but instead they filter out waves in a specific polarity.

Plain old white light has two components: horizontal polarization and vertical polarization.

Turns out that light bounced off the water is predominantly one and not the other so polarized filters work to filter our reflections( the bounced light). In fact, if you turn your lens 90 degrees you'll see the reflections.

As for the rainbow effect, I would guess that the curvature along with the tint color affect the amount off polarized light that makes it to your retina for each wavelength giving you the perceived color gradient. Again, try turning it 90 degrees and it must have a different effect.

I don't own a pair so I can't test my theory.

Watch out for cheap polarized sunglasses because they don't alway orient the lenses correctly so one lens will be set at a slight angle to the other, so one eye sees things differently then the other eye.. real fun when out on the water.. also the clip-on type for prescription glasses will interact with the special coating's applied to some glasses.

Polarized glasses only work properly when the legs of the glasses fit snuggly behind your ears.

If you put them on with the legs facing forward (by taping them to your nose), you'll see your brain as the polarizing affect removes the glare off your eyeballs.

This has been proven on both venus and the moon in the late 60's by Hendrix fans.

Interesting to hold two polarized lens up to the light and rotate one 90 deg. It blocks out most of the light and is a good way to check if a pair is polarized or not. laugh

_Hey Yall: Since Ricardo has seen fit to make it known how Polarizing Lenses Basicly work lets go a step farther and let you know how in a way that makes a little more sense. Red Neck Ease!! LoL!! laugh

_Think of the Polerization as a set of Fixed Mini Blinds. These Filter Elements are angled to Block reflected light waves to help eliminate glare while allowing you to focus vision straight ahead. The Tint in the lense coating is the Wave Lenght Filtering I spoke of but did'nt clairify in an effort to make the explaination shorter. The better glasses also have an Anti Glare Matte finish on the inside of the lense to stop/absorb glare from your cheeks...reflected light from the sides of your face from boucing into your eyes.

_Auto Glass is also Laminated to keep glass fragments from skattering at high speeds durring heavy impacts. This lamination layer is visible with Polarized Lenses because the reflected light glare ommited thru the Polarizing Filtering Proccess would normally make it invisable.

_Like PopScot says... If you take two sets of Polarized Lenses and hold them together you can effectively line up these polarities 180 deg opposed and block out most of the light. Some Aircraft Interior use a double Pane of Polerized Lexan to Filter out light. You rotate the inner pane to change the light filtration intensity.

_It would be like turning one set of Mini Blinds all the way up and a second set all the way down with the blinds sitting back to back. It wont block out 100% of the light but it gets real close!! laugh

_Hook Line and Sinker is very correct on the Cheap Sun Glasses...Some are worse than not having them on...if the lense angles are incorrectly polarized!! Be sure you check them out in the store before you take them home... It'll make you go Blind on the water!! eek

_Good Luck and Enjoy Better Fishing With Polarized Sun Glasses Yall!! wink
