I'am in the process of restoring my 17' center console and I had an estimate done today to spray a Reflex truck lining (similar to a Rhino Lining) on the entire deck of my boat to improve the look and function of my boat. The estimate was $3,500 WOW!! and that was with me stripping all the hardware (rails, trolling motor etc.) Has anyone ever done this before and was the cost about the same? Does anyone have any other ideas? Does it cost as much to have some quality carpet installed?

You can buy the same stuff and roll it on. I would guess that its going to be more labor intensive, but there isn't anyway its going to run you 3 grand.

check out line x, same as rhino, seems real high on price since a pu bed only runs about 400.00. line x will give you a color choice, had it for 5 yrs. in my dodge and real tough stuff. way less maintenance than carpet, will last forever (no replacement in 5-6 yrs. or less). if you use the boat in salt water much go with the line x for ease of cleaning and durability. almost did my champion but got a deal on carpet.

oh yeah forgot to mention, just do the deck maybe 2-3" up sides, no reason to do the gunwhale, sidewall areas.

Backdraft, You might look at Durabak. It's another polyurethane coating (like Rhino Liner, Herculiner, etc.) but is designed for roller application. I haven't used it yet, but I have three gallons in the closet waiting to be applied to the deck of my boat. It would be a lot less than $3500! Cheers, Kelly McCoy

Justfood for thought. line x on just the deck will be comparable to carpet if less than 1/8" thick, it doesn't really weigh that much. and I'm thinkin if he does the tape off and cleans it good first only about 5-600.00 but not sure.

I have put some of that roll on stuff on my deck boat floors. I then covered it with carpet. I just did it to reinforce the deck. It was not hard to do. I bought the stuff at an auto parts store and it wasn't too expensive. I talked with a rhino liner guy also and he gave me some rediculous quote like you got. I have been happy with it, but like snmcc said you will have to wear shoes to walk on it. I would not say that is hurts, but it is not comfortable. This is why I put carpet down over it. I do have it bare on my livewells and it looks pretty cool. Hope that this helps with your decision or confused you, which ever you prefer

you have all been a great help thank you and after reading your comments I believe I will go ahead a re-carpet the boat because my wife and kids love to fish with me and they are always barefoot and carpet looks better imo I was just trying to get away from having to replace it every few years.

did a 22 ft pro master.... cost me 1800 added alot of weight...maybe 300 lbs...... I'm having a little trouble imagining 300lbs of bedliner on a 22' boat. Polyurethane is ~65lbs/cuft. 300lbs would cover a rectangle 22'x10' 1/4" thick. The roll-on bedliners are about 10lbs per gallon and cover 50-60sqft per gallon (two coats). To add 300lbs you would have to use 30 gallons, or enough to cover 1500sqft (an area 30'x50', and that's assuming none of the weight was solvent that evaporated away). I have Rhinoliner in the bed of my truck. My kids and I have walked on it barefooted many times. I don't find it uncomfortable and I find the traction very good. My boat gets used for tubing, skiing, etc. and there's often a lot of water dripping on the deck. I also hope to fish offshore often where large fish may be gaffed and dropped bleeding onto the deck. Carpet just doesn't seem like a good answer. Cheers,
