Had the pleasure of fishing with Old Coach and Herman on Hubbard today. Old Coach drove all the way up from Waco, towing his boat just to drive Herman and I around Ray Hubbard today. We started out at Robertson point, checked out a boat show but nothing doing. The day didn't start out to well as Herman got a hook buried past the barb in the back of his hand. Iron man Herman, cut, pushed, bled until he got the barb through and Old Coach cut it off and out it came. Herman was determined not to go to the dock in the box or miss a minute of fishing, now that's a real fisherman! Here is pick of him after the extraction with a fish. We check a few places on the way to the gravel pits but didn't mark anything. Started catching a few small ones at the gravel pit then Old Coach hooked a hybrid but not quite big enough to keep (17.5"), big fish of the day. Then he caught a large mouth bass. Dropeed my camera so no more pics after that. Checked out a few more spots(red barn etc.), but nothing doing. Moved down to the power plant and joined the boat show. We were surprised that there were not more boats. Maybe saw 15 boats total all day. Any way we set up a drift and for the next 3 hrs had a great time with the sandies and yellow bass. Most of them small but a lot of fun. On one drift we had 3 on, 3 on then Old Coach had 2 on one line all within 5 minutes. All in all a great day on the lake with some very fine friends. Life is good when your fishing!

Hey , I saw you guys out there. It was slow. I was out there with my 7 yeara old trolling. We caught a huge sanie about twenty minutes in and did not get another bite. Baspro was out of the dipsy divers , so I had a hellbender with a 1 ounce weight on it trailing a lucky craft lvr. Everything we were marking was 19 feet or deeper. We tool one too many over the bow and little bit got cold so we headed home. We did have fun. too bad the fishing was slow.

I think we saw you also, your little girl sounded like she was having a great time. It was slow for us also until we moved over to the power plant. The fish were hugging the bottom so tight that most of the time we were not marking any fish at all. It got a lot better when we changed our presentation to a very slow bounce no more than 1 ft off the bottom. Caught a lot of fish, mostly small with some keepers mixed in. Those little yellow bass were more aggressive than the big sandies. The sandies would just give a little tap and you had to be quick to set the hook. Anything that felt slightly different, set the hook. This is what worked for us. Most caught on slabs, chartreuse, silver/black back, Moe's SSS slabs all worked. If things slowed down changing color seemed to pick things up. The 3 of us each had 2 poles rigged with slightly different lures but it didn't matter to us who was using what rig. Makes fishing with good friends like Old Coach and Herman such a fun time.

Thanks Chris, looking forward to fishing with you next Sunday. Can't wait. kickenbass6, yes Old Coach caught the hybrid and the LMB on the same slab.

Old Coach has to be one of the better people on the planet. I played football for him in the 90's. He had a place on Whitney for a while. I'd never done any striper fishing until he took me one spring. Burnt a lotta gas since then. If you talk to him anytime soon tell him Rob Mason said hey.

JV sorry we didn't get to meet up with you. Plan to be out on the lake in the near future, hope to run into you some time. Champion, saw you at the peanut. It was good to be around a group that shared the good fishing. fish4rob I agree Old Coach is a heck of a guy. I will relay your message to him.
