OK yesterday I bought a used Humminbird 535 unit. I had a 200DX on my boat and the transducer was broken off 2 weeks ago in an accident. It was a Transom mounted Transducer. So I mount the 535 and run the transducer to the transom and mount it 17" from my prop. Power the unit up while the boat is out of the water and on my trailer and I can actually hear the pings from the transducer???? My old unit I could not hear the pings. I called Humminbird and the lady says this is normal??? I am just wondering if you all think this will have any affect on the fishing???? I have never hear a unit ping that loud before. I am taking the boat to the lake tonight so I will findout if it works properly or not in the water...... I am thinking that the pings are loud enough that I am going to be able to hear them on my hull when my boat is in the water........ Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Rob

hmm, I have never heard pings, and I had a 535 on my last boat. I dont think this is normal, however I am sure the pings dont make as much noise as the OB motor or the TM does it?

Well it's not horribly loud but my hearing is not that good and I can hear it so I know it is loud lol.... I have a 19' Skiff and the transducer is mounted on the Transom and I can stand at the Center Console and still hear it pinging with the boat sitting on my trailer out of the water. I will post some more info either Monday or over the weekend as I am hitting the lake tonight. As I said I have never heard one make this much noise but the lady @ Humminbird said it is perfectly normal?????? I'm wondering if the pinging is going to spook the fish out of the area????

That is normal. All transducers make a ping noise. If they don't they are not working correctly.

ya but are you suppose to be able to hear it when you are out of the water, i cannot even hear mine when my ear is next to the water. I agree, it is working but just kinda weird that you are hearing it
