I dont know for sure, but last year on Richland chambers, i poured some maze out and set some juglines out, then i trolled for a bit around the jugs, and all of a sudden i started picking up hybrids and magnum sandies everytime i would pass the jugs.

May have been coincidence but not for sure.

I take my pole and swish it around in the water for several seconds. It's not chumming but I got the idea after seeing a guide with a trolling motor mounted on his transom with the prop half-way in, slapping the water. I was told it helps attract them. Might just be a "placebo" to give me more confidence but it seems to work when I do it.

I was just discussing this yesterday w/ another local angler.
I've seen the results of live-bait chumming w/ snappers & such.
I bet it works! I can't throw a net to save my life, so try it
& report back!

Doesn't work as well as what you are used to seeing in
saltwater, but it does help.

It does work to draw in shad. The bad thing is that its against the law because they are a game fish!!!!

People that fish cut bait for stripers will chum. Thay usually just cut up shad drop it over the side of the boat or throw it out a little ways from the boat. I have seen people have good luck doing this. usually on anchor

Blue wave mike.. Im not sure what you mean.. which fish are you talking about being a game fish ?

Not shad???? If shad were a game fish you wouldnt be able to use them live either.

chumming for stripers does work as does beating the water at certain times of the year. When the fish are actively busting the top beating the water does and will attract them towards the boat...

chumming also works.. I have had days where the bellies of the fish are completely empty except for the cumm Ive thrown down. At times when fish are not actively feeding chum acts like an apetizer and will get them moving after they have a little taste smile

I prefer to spend my time fishing--seems a bit extreme to attract fish but I guess if it works.

I think the Greenhorn was referring to your "cumm" reference. I'm sure you meant "chum" LOL but I wasn't gonna go there.

I'll see you May 16 JD! Save some stripers for my group and get some rest.

Live chumming is one of the most productive ways to keep fish close to your boat...it is especially critical when targeting fish in deep water with a fly rod...give it a try!
