The title tells all, but all was not well. I went out to the local lake with very little time to fish. I mainly just wanted to see how my setup would work and to play with the sonar a little. I air up my tube so that it is pretty firm, pull on the waders and here we go!
The water was in the mid 50's to lower 60's, but I was in heaven just playing with a new piece of equipment! I quickly noticed however that my thin fins that came with my tube are not going to cut it! Before long I realized I was sitting a little low in the water. I guess the water temp caused my tube to lose pressure due to the 20 something degree difference in the water temp and ambient temp. That was no biggie because I didn't really have much time anyway, but what pissed me off was when my BRAND NEW Cuda 300 quit working right. The depth began blinking and was showing readings that were way off. I was standing in knee deep water and it was showing to be about 9'. At one point, I moved the transducer around and it showed 3.5' but then went back to the wrong depth. I left, came home and put the tube in the pool. It showed the correct depth until I put the transducer over the step. It started flashing again and went to 20' or so.
Can you have a transducer in TOO SHALLOW water?

skid/flip is right. A fish finder won't work in water that's 2 or 3 feet deep. No big deal--just get out away from the bank, and I think you'll be happier.

Whew... I was about to get really irritated! It would have been alot better had I been able to catch a little fish though. I think the cold front pushed them out more, but I noticed that the bait fish were jumping while I messed with my transducer. Bad thing is that I forgot my bullet weights so I was stuck with a spinner bait until the tube went flat!

Also note: when your tube loses air, the transducer angle gets a little skewed, or angled away from the bottom and points away from you, making it read deeper in most cases. That's why I built my PVC rig araund my Tube. I don't have that to worry about anymore.

What do you mean you built a PVC rig around your tube? Do you have pictures?

Two wheels or two reels, either way I'm happy. Let's handle those bass better. Use two hands. M'kay? - How to Handle Bass
