Fished from 8:30-10:30 for black bass and got skunked. Fished for crappie from 10:30-12:30 and didn't catch a fish until 11:30. Ended up doing ok with about 10 crappie and 3 sand bass. Had one really good crappie at 1.87 lbs and was a nice fight. Also had the pleasure of having 3 fish hit a once and losing a $200 rod/reel combo to the lake gods. if it wasn't for the big slab, it would have been a rotten day!

Sorry you lost a rod/reel, especially a costly one! That hurts! I am so afraid of kicking one overboard I always keep mine under the rod strap on the front deck and remind my backseaters to do the same. I take one out and strap the rest right back down. But, I have arthritis, severe in some areas and once as I casted an excruciating pain went up my arm to my shoulder and I threw the rod/reel right into the lake. Quantum Energy PT Baitcaster on a St. Croix rod. Big mistake. Now I cast 2 handed most times unless it's a short side cast and keep my other hand on the butt of the rod, just in case.

I went out to run the boat and take the dog out. While there, I casted a line in the shallows a little bit and didn't even get a little bite.

That's why they call it fishing and not catching!

might head out tomorrow as will probably be the last time for another month that I can enjoy the Texas weather. Work in Rhode Island, so must enjoy while I can.

Try some of the shallow pilons too, there should be a few starting to show up. Good luck!
