Has anyone been out to Lake Mineral Wells lately? I'm thinking about going out there Thurs or Fri this week to look for some shallow water crappie. I've got a little flat bottom boat with a trolling motor I can use to get un-land bound. Are any parts of this lake safe for such a craft? I thought so given that they do canoe and kayak rentals. If so, what areas would you try? This is primarily a random excuse to get out of the house and not be anywhere near a major lake on spring brake.

I'm not really a crappie fisherman but I know your flat bottom boat would do well there. The thing is with the recent rain, it is muddy, which by Thursday or Friday the muddy water may settle. There are a lot of crappie fisherman that regularily visit MW Lake. There is a little store there that sells minnows and worms. GOOD LUCK!

Thats alot CRS. By any chance, do you know where the store is? Is it down the road close to the public boat ramp, or on 180, or is it just so easy to find I shouldn't even worry about it?

The store is right next to the boat ramp inside the park. Just go down park rd, oh shoot, I forget the road number, and head on in. You can't miss the store. If not mistaken there is a bait shop on 180 near Cool as well. BTW, you don't need a license to fish on the lake as it is entirely within the park boundaries. I was going to go camping there on Wednesday, but the burn ban is still in effect for Palo Pinto county, dangit.
