Dad just got his 797 installed and now needs to learn how to use. He's 400+ miles away or I would gladly help him set it up. What changes if any does he need to make to the factory settings to maximize use of this thing? Thanks

Kevin,
most everything is ready to go right out of the box. The biggest thing is the right and left range on the unit. Have him set it for about 75' and go somewhere that you know what is down there.
Bridge pilings are great because as you pass through them they really stand out and if fish as schooled up (crappie/blue gills) you will be able to see them really well. Other than adjusting the sensitivity when you are over soft bottoms or really deep water that should get him familiar with the unit.
