Tuesday my brother Doug and I, along with our kids, hit Braunig at approximately 11 a.m. Our goal was to troll up some reds and hybrids on deep diving crank baits. On our second pass on the east side of the jetty, Doug reeled in a 19" red. Wind was gusting so we moved over the to the dam for a little relief. Trolled the length of the dam and other than a nice channel cat that was tail-snagged by my daughter's Shad Rap, nothing doing. Moved over to the west discharge. Trolled up a couple of fish but lost them before we could see them. Didn't seem to have much size to them though. Moved over and made a couple of passes at Dead Tree Point. Nada. We then trailered the boat since things were slow and the kids were eager for some fish.

We drove over to Cally and motored into 181 cove. Anchored up at the first spot and caught a couple of cats up shallow on shrimp. Moved over to the opposite bank and started doing better on Marv's under slip corks--again up shallow. On our way back to the dock we stopped at a point that also served as a cormorant roost and added a few more bonus cats, again on Marv's/slip corks. Ended up with 16 channel cats in the box and three tired kids before calling it a day at 4:30. The majority were males, although the few females we did catch had ripe eggs.

Thanks for the report and pic. It looks like things are starting to pick up at Cally. I'm going to try and make it out there Sunday. Can you make it to the get-together on April 18th? We all would like to have you join us.

Nice fish Sean. I hope this change in the weather doesn't slow the bite. I will give it a go on Sunday also weather permitting and will post a report.

Thanks guys, I've been wondering over the last couple of days how this cold snap has effected the bite. Water as 72 when were were there on Tuesday.

Southern, thanks for the invite regarding the 18th. I've been promising Don that I'd make it to the get-together the past few years but the kiddo's baseball, softball, and soccer games seem to always conflict. If I can make it, I'll be there for sure.

If anyone is going out Sunday I will be in the 181 cove to start. Look for a camouflaged painted boat.
