My wife and I took the wallpaper off the walls in a bathroom. While doing this, we peeled some of the paper off of the sheetrock. We want to paint this room. What do I need to do to make these wall paintable? Also, are those texturizing paints any good or do I need to texture the walls before I paint.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!

prime the tore spots with oil based kilz primmer. bed these areas with drywall compound. let dry and sand smooth. i dont know what kind of texture you want but you can get a crows foot brush or you can trowel a thin coat of drywall compound on in you own design. just dont make it to thick or it will crack as it is drying. on your next room dont remove wallpaper. just kilz it and paint over texture. when using the kilz make sure you have windows open and preferably a fan running

I've used a bunch of this stuff for application like your describing. It will save you a ton of time and the final outcome will look really professional. If you have any gouges in the sheet rock, then a fill those in first with texture. Let it dry, sand smooth, then prime the whole wall with First Coat. When it dries, it needs to be textured or painted.

what i do is let the walls dry over night (after removing paper with water ) sand with 60 grit floor paper ( you can buy it by the yard at real paint stores ) to get anything loose off .then i float a coat of 20 minute powdered mud ( this product allows you to finsh the smoothing in a half day unlkike ready mix mud that takes over night to dry . .if you are going to use a lite texture you may need to sand the bad areas lightly once more and refill w/the 20 min.nud . for a roll on texture buy the pink roller with the blue handle aand buy some ready to use all purpose mud put in a 5 gal pail about a gallon and add about i pint of water and mix well then just roll it on the wall . for trowel texture use a 10 inch knife and put some mud in a 5 gal.pais and add water to the bucket but dont mix it just dip some onto your tray with a 6 inch knife and mix it in the pan and cover an area with mudand work it around a couple of times and leave it and continue down the wall . for spraying after youhave to have it pretty smooth .you can rent atext spray at home depot . you have to mask everything good . add water to your mud and mix well then just shoot it . i hardly ever use primer for bad areas . after its textured i use flat latex for a primer then s/g lat enamel as a top coat in the same color

oh and the ready mix texture products look terrible !

one important thing i forgot is i always run a bead of caulk around the base boards , door jambs , cabinets and ceiling . this makes for a crisper cut in line
