I've been hearing about all the drug cartel wars and heightened alert around the border. Just curious if anybody has had any problems or run into any bad situations around Del Rio or Lake Amistad? I don't imagine I would fish the Mexico side anyway. Any comments??

There are a lot of rich professionals there right now, I bet its pretty safe. All I've heard on TFF says its fine

no its not safe ...........stay home.....I heard they had 400 killed there last week alone, ...............damn shame that was bass killed by locals who do not appreciate their treasure, if you go, its the best fishery there in in the contitental boundries. Drug running is indeed an issue, but not nearly like it is at Falcon...........anyone know how to add a great big smiley face right about now????

This came off of Falcon about 9 years ago. I'm the guy on the right in the pic. It was over 4,500 lbs. We look dopey cuz it was like 4:30 AM and we'd been on it for about 46 hours.



Amistad gets little loads by comparison, 3-500 lbs.

Caught 'em in a cove about even with marker 3. Got 3 mesican fishing boats, 3 pickup trucks and 2 bodies. The others scatter like blue quail and by the time the helicopter got there he had about 10 minutes of air time left before he had to leave.

Those were the good old days.

Yep, they eventually burned it. It's fun to catch, but a pita to deal with. All the paperwork, safeguarding it, transporting it from Falcon to either Brownsville or Laredo. The boats and trucks were forfeited to the government and I guess they sold them. the two dudes plead out, if I remember they got like 10 years each and were probably released and deported already.

Most of the dope crossing around Amistad goes on around the Pecos and upriver. It's the dumb Angelo dudes from up north that think they can make a quick buck who get busted at the marinas or in the Recreation Area property. Amatures

I've fished the Mexico side for year's. I've never had a problem. Doesn't mean there won't be a first. I don't even think twice about fishin that side. BUT,, you do need to keep aware of your surrounding's.
