I have had good run ins with wardens and I've had bad ones. I obey the hunting and fishing laws because that is MY choice. When checked I always have my license out, my basket out of the water, my birds out of the bag, ect.. when the Warden walks up. Now, dont get me wrong some wardens think they are God and will let you know it in a heart beat. This warden seems to have had a reason for not ticketing the man for the illegal fish.

Amazing that someone can rationalize being a game thief. Even more amazing that the 'someone' can extrapolate his behavior to everyone. No, Snowy, I've never kept an undersize fish and I've been fishing for about 55 years now. I throw back 10 in crappie just to make sure I haven't measured them wrong. My dad taught me to respect the game laws. They're there to preserve wildlife for future generations.

I agree with some others here, call OGT, and let the professionals handle the thiefs. I was disappointed that the warden only wrote 1 ticket.

The old saw about their starving familes is BS. They should get off their lazy behinds and work. If they can't work, there are churches and other organizations that will help them eat AND find work.

There are 500 Game Wardens (give or take a few), employed by TPWD to patrol 268,601 square miles including 367 miles of coastline over 254 counties. On average each officer is responsable for 537.2 square miles in a state with arguably the most varied terrain in the US.

Either you accept the fact that TPWD uses "snitches", (AKA concerned citizens), or prepare to pay A LOT more in taxes or liceanse fees to put enough GW's in the field. You see if we don't have enough enforcement, the poachers will simply erradicate the fish and game and there will be none left for you and your kids.
They only kind of people who would be OK with such an outcome are selfish fools or the poachers themselves.

Considered that guy lucky. The warden only ticketed him for one fish among many. I am tired of the victimization mentality....He will learn, even if that's a small price to pay.
What 2nd chance? that is considered as his 2nd chance. Let's see how big of a price if it's $180 x 9 ...so quit crying...
And don't lecture me about driving the speed limit nor the turn signal....everything has its own value and degree of wrongfulness...selling a kilo of cocaine or 9 kilos is alot different than taken 1 illegal fish or 9 illegal fish...
So don't compare this compare that... Just pay the price when caught and learn from it. I am sure that guy have learned a valuable lesson and that he won't be doing that anymore...
But by asking me to rehabilitate him right on the spot is not my job. That's why we pay our good tax money to our law enforcement.
Any of you who might feel sorry for that guy need to contact the game warden and find out who he is...go pay his fine or deliver him a bag of grocery and be done with it. You guys are also the same folks who focus on the righteousness of the person who called the game warden and made him into a wrongful person. Why not try to focus on punishing the wrong-doer for a change instead of feeling sorry for him and turn around with all the rhetorics toward the good guy?

Those who come down on those of us who feel it is right to report POACHERS need to consider this:

If you were away for the weekend and a neighbor saw someone breaking into your house, wouldn't you want them to call the police? I bet you'd call to report someone breaking into your neighbor's house wouldn't you? You shouldn't do either of those because it's the job of the police to take care of that matter. What about if you know that someone abuses their kids? Isn't it right to report them to CPS?

I have kept a couple over my limit a few year's back and I thought it was ok! But now that I'm a little older and respect my sport ALOT more I would call myself! I see people almost everyday at roll-over catch there limit and run'um back to there RV's..I dont think that's right! If you going to continue fishing if you already have your limit I think you should give your fish to a family thats a little less experienced and/or dont have to many good fish to take home! That just me! I will always have a helping hand for the needy..Oh Catfish..You can not compare abused kid's to catching a few illegal fish. Your like a fish notze..lol..J/K

A good statement. The kicker is the money we pay for licenses and to launch our boats and to register our boats and to renew our boat registration every year doesn't go to the game wardens. It goes for highways and projects in downtown Houston. If the money was spent on Wardens there would be 5000 of them.

Reporting an offender is not being a "snitch"...it is being a responsible citizen performing a service for all of us sportsmen. I would not hesitate to report anyone for breaking our fish and game laws.

Last I heard panhandling is still illegal, but rarely enforced. Hmmm, I wonder why. This is likely the same sentiment why the GW gave him a pass on the remaining illegal fish.

Last you heard is INCORRECT. Panhandling during daylight hours is not illegal in Austin. And in my opinion, if the Game Warden gave the violator a pass on a certain number of undersized fish, he was wrong in doing so. I'm not convinced he gave the guy a pass.

Talked to a denton county game warden at Ray Roberts Marina today and I asked him (because of this thread) if they give out alot of tickets for undersized fish he said very seldom. He guesses one hasnt been written since last year. Most of the time they have the offender just release them unless its obvious a serious problem exist. He said a good portion of the tickets that he writes are for no licence and keeping over the limit.

By the way the fishing was bad at the stalls just a bunch of 9.5" fish LOL

I have to give credit to northtexascrappiehunter for getting a thread going even though it might be a hoax

You know this thread has taught me a couple lessons.

1. there are a lot of childish people on here.

2. someone tells a story on here and all of a sudden its a hoax.

3. the moderators on here evidently have favorites.

4. some people on here I would fish with anytime any day.

5. some people on here I wouldn't care to carry on a converation with.

I cannot believe some of you think I would make this up. You dont know me. What gives you the right to question me, and call me a liar?

Part 2 of the story:

Went to Tower Bay today on the way home from work to see if the lake levels had changed any. Guess who was fishing? Yes the same guy who I called on, I didnt even walk over to him, I just walked down to the water and looked around alittle. By the time I got back to my vehicle he had packed up and left. One thing is for sure, he knows I call again and evidently he either wasnt catching anything, or he didnt want another ticket!

Another thing,
I don't know the wardens name, but he has a mole on one of his ear lobes. Guess next time Ill get his badge number, name, And shoe size for all you who cant take the word from someone you don't know.

I haven't ever crossed any of you, for you all not believe me, that's screwed up.
