The reason I asked this is because I was fishing for catfish last week, with cut shad, and a circle hook, and I hooked about a 4 lb channel cat in the tail. I turned it and all the other fish I caught that day loose, but I wanted to see what answers would come out of this.

Northtexas did what he thought was correct. The game warden agreed and wrote a ticket. That should have been the end of it but since he posted on a public forum he should expect the trolls to come out. The same goes for snowy. His response didn't offend me but certainly seems to have offended others. All of the "it's the law" comments are what prompted me to reply as "it appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds".

The offender had short fish and deserved his punishment. I got a great laugh at all of the "it's the law" comments. I hope no one calls DPS on you tomorrow when you are doing 71 in a 70. The "for food" excuse is absolutely BS as fishing is more expensive than hitting the $1 menu at a fast food joint.

I always drive the speed limit. I have never sped. I stop twice at red lights just in case. I use my turn signals. When I get the bird shot at me I smile and wave. The only problem I really have is I like to lie alot.

you did the right thing apparently he lied to you an the warden so his intentions were bad in the first place ,he was upset cause he was not catching the big ones ,well if he was in the same spot then not only is he a theif and lier, he is also lazy, you think this guy could get there with the price of gas he could have bought food, sounds like he is going for the 7 deadly sins.an why could he not be thankful for the one he did have

Ive never streched a fish to make it legal. I hate cleaning little ones its just a pain in the a$$ I would much rather clean a few big one than a mess of barely keepers.

Oh btw I keep OGT# in my cell and the local wardens cell # in there too I dont hesitate to call

Too many children on this forum it seems. Good job on reporting that dude northtexascrappiehunter. Now he knows that he is being watched and hopefully will leave the undersized fish alone.

Gentlemen, please keep this on topic, and cease the personal attacks.

Several of you will be receiving PMs shortly.

If we cant discuss this in a civil manner timeouts will be issued and the thread pulled.

Whether the guy was "fishing for food" or not makes no difference. There are NO excuses for breaking the law. If the guy was hungry he should have visited the grocery store. If he had no money he should have constructed a cardboard sign and panhandled for money. The amount of $ he will pay in his fine would have bought a lot of groceries.

Reporting an offender is not being a "snitch"...it is being a responsible citizen performing a service for all of us sportsmen. I would not hesitate to report anyone for breaking our fish and game laws.

Ive talked to a game worden about this. As long as your intent was not to snag the fish its lawful to keep that fish. Now if you see a big crappie sitting in a bed and you jerk the jig as it goes over its back thats snagging. But say youre slow rolling a roadrunner and slam fishing on but its hooked say in the side, you can keep that fish.
He told me its a fuzzy area but if I see someone clearly jerking fish Ill ticket them.

If the intent was not to snag the fish you bet your as- Im keeping that fish and posting it to show off. And I would tell the story.chef

I don't ever look the other way, I can get the GW quick and I will call.

Last I heard panhandling is still illegal, but rarely enforced. Hmmm, I wonder why. This is likely the same sentiment why the GW gave him a pass on the remaining illegal fish.

You know the more I think about this the more it sounds a little made up. A lot of people make up stories on here (yes even me) so I need more proof.

"Operation Game theif"

Obviously, TPW think you should "snitch" in order to preserve wildlife!
