Does anyone know if running a 90hp two stroke engine at a low rpm for an extended period of time harm the motor. I like to troll for white bass and stripers, but i don't want to hurt an engine. I am looking to buy a new boat with a 90hp Mercury, but if I need to do something else, please let me know. Thank you.

you should not have any problem.. Just keep up with the maintenance and occosionally add a can of Sea Foam to the fuel. Don't get cheep oil.

I use my old 85HP Johnson at idle a LOT trolling. It'll load up now and again, usually just requiring adding some throttle for a few seconds to clean it out. Every now and then we'll reel up and blow her out real good. I just changed the plugs last year, the first time in 4 years, and the old plugs still looked pretty good The new ones made no noticeable difference in performance. But i got peace of mind knowing they're new.

As long as the motor is sound, it shouldn't hurt it one bit.

get a smaller kicker outboard, saves fuel anyway.

Not to be a smart-a$$ or anything. But it'd have to save A LOT of fuel to offset the cost of the kicker motor, bracket, and steering linkage.

Plus that, my little ole boat would look plumb stupid with a kicker on it.

Again, not trying to be argumentative.
