I am headed down to Freeport in a couple weeks and I was thinking I would head out to the George Vancouver reef to try and get into a few snapper.

Has anyone fished this wreck before? If so, what would be a good artificial to take with me?

Not many snapper on it but you will find bull reds. Mr. Hilton is trying to help change that by building better and more structure in that lease area. During warm months kings get on there too but haven't even heard of anyone doing good on snapper.

I was hoping to catch some snapper but don't have many places in mind. Are there any good rigs within about 15 miles of the Freeport jetties?

The close in stuff is pretty tough because it gets hit pretty hard. If it were me I would go out of galveston. Its shallower but I have had better luck on the state water snaps there. If you head straight southeast from the jetties there are two pipestands in state waters that hold keeper snapper this time of yr. You will have to sort through some dinks but there are some there. That would be where I would start. Know of a couple of other places but need to check if they are in state waters. Really close to the line. I normally dont bother til summer since the weather is more predictable and the kingfish are in tight.
